What's a realistic price for a vintage '61 without the Star Factor?

    It's not vintage.
Realistic price.....£1600 less 100 for the missing case. + 200 for the sixties case. So £1700.
Same guitar if owned by Johnny Marr: £1700.

    It does look lovely though.

Perhaps he's decided to pack in the "music" stuff, sell all his kit and become an estate agent?

    There's a hope ...

If I had the money, and a Smiths era guitar came up I'd be duty bound to pay top dollar.

    This one....

I got my hands on a vintage Gibson 355 at Richard Henry's studio. I hoped it was Johnny Marr's but it wasn't. Amazing guitar though. RH showed me a load of pictures he'd taken on Johnny Marr's US tour.

I've played one of Johnny's old guitars, a mapleglo Rickenbacker (I think it was a 335 i.e. a 330 with tremolo arm). Given to a well-known music journalist and author, and signed on the back with a marker pen.

Indeed, it'd be far too flash for me though. I'd be happy with a JM Jag as opposed to one of his actual guitars.

  • As soon as it was listed I was after it and after finding out BIN price I was still after it! I made an offer but unfortunately it went quicker than I could sort. Its a beautiful guitar. Johnny never sells guitars. Seems he's funding something...

Let's hope so. Someone like him would be a great owner. Don't know whether you were at the opening, but JM did say that the people there were the best in the business. You never know....

  • I wasn't at the opening but have been and bought a few bits from there. I was about to have them do a set up on my Les Paul but I'm not going to leave it with them in their current situation.

The person who did the set-ups has been made redundant, so any work like that would probably be subbed out at the moment. Regrettably, I agree with you. Much as I like the place and the people involved, I wouldn't want to leave any of my guitars there at present.

  • Ah, the fella with the long hair? He was the reason I was going to take it there as opposed to Steve in PMT. He certainly knew his onions on the mechanical side. I think he said that he used to be an engineer.
