I can't recommend the Manchester Guitar Tech highly enough . . .  My 62 AVRI Stratocaster is simply unbelievable now . . . Brilliant service .
Id just like to point out that, despite all the video and DNA evidence, it genuinely wasn't me, your Honour  !

Keith Railton at Imperial Guitars near Cambridge just did a grand job on an old Strat for me -- fret dress, setup etc -- turned it round in a week and was very reasonable.

Any recommendations for fretwork in Edinburgh? I'm not sure if my guitar needs a full refret or just a fret dress & level.
I think the major guitar shops eg Red Dog and GuitarGuitar have techs that do work for them but I'm not sure how good they are...

Hi, I wanted to suggest Dante Zufolo as a guitar builder and repair person. He's worked on my Taylor acoustic and Fender Strat. He also does violins, cellos, standup bass, mandolin, etc. He lives in Bromley, London, UK. Here's his web address: http://www.dantezufolo.co.uk

    Hope that's useful!

Another recommendation for Andy Gibson in London. Good refret, re-radiusing and setup, done in a week and really reasonable prices. And a very approachable and chatty chap to boot.

Chris Mcintyre is meant to be very good indeed. Lots of "famous" clients. Comes with the price tag to match mind you.

    Hi
Can anyone recommend a decent guitar tech in Berkshire?  Just for a good set-up initially.  I've been looking at Smartguitars in Oxford but wanted to see if there was anyone closer to home.
    Cheers

Andy Warnock in Gravesend, Kent is awesome. Not the cheapest but amazing work - http://www.andywarnock.co.uk/
Just bought a used Precision bass that was setup by Andy and also had the frets re-finished when it was new. Wow and wow! This guy is something special. If Mark Knopfler trusted him to refret his '58 Les Paul, then that's good enough for me He refrets with nibs too, if that's your thing.
If we are not ashamed to think it, we should not be ashamed to say it.

The chaps at Guitar Aid in Putney are great, if a little hectic!
    +1 for Guitar Aid

Did a great job on my guitar.
Took my Strat there once and they didn't even ask me how I wanted it setup. it came out pretty buzzy and didn't play any better so I am sure they just changed the strings and not much more...

Heard that Tim Marten would possibly have to move out of Denmark St (rent-related). Would be a shame, he's good

  • As of 2014 Waghorn don't do setups/upgrades on anything that isn't a Waghorn guitar. They do list local peeps here:

Moved to Bristol last winter, and I've discovered Phil who is based just outside city centre. If you don't drive he can come and collect/drop off your stuff for a bit extra. http://www.bristolguitartech.com/

He's breathed life into some of my older stuff that's been sat in storage for a long time. Absolute top bloke and a great tech!
