Here's my Comfortably Numb easy solo, recorded last month, after about 3 months playing. Plenty to work on here!

Apols if this is the wrong place - I checked the FAQs. Happy to move or remove if not appropriate.

A beginner forum section (or even a thread) would be great for many of us I think. I want to push through that first year when the stats say 90% of new players give up.

Oh go on then. This is just a very green attempt at improvising. Just recorded a few chords onto my Looper then played horribly over the top four a few minutes.

I'm well aware that I need plenty more practice.

Sorry about the crap slideshow, was just trying to work out how to get an mp3 onto my fb page and it appeared bolting it on to a video was the best bet. Random guitar pictures it is then!

Here's one of my much earlier ones, trying to get the various layers recorded in Audacity and using my cajon for beats. I never did go back and finish this song!

The first one I did last night just because, the other one was a couple of months back. I started in December.

    How are you getting on?

Same start as me. Doing ok, I can now just about struggle through Californication, inc solo, and Rain (Cult). They're shite but at least recognisable. I find being able to get through a whole track with alll the parts a huge milestone and quite a buzz. Cali. is great as it has picking, strumming and a nice accessible and melodic solo all at a moderate tempo. & the lyrics alone make it a classic.

I feel I am now through the absolute hardest part of beginning and there's now a closer relationship between effort put in and reward coming back out.

I have a recording of Rain but it's not really fit for human consumption. I'll try and make a palatable one, or of Cal.

Now there are 2 of us are we a "community"?  =)

I'm sure there are more out there somewhere!

I'm not doing loads of song based stuff at the moment, when I feel like I want to play something like that I jump on rocksmith. Tend to spend my practice time doing scales and theory stuff set by my teacher.

Interesting different approaches. Always been a songs based guy myself, playing a song I've loved for years (or decades!) is a big motivator for me. But I think these are just different ways to break into the same loop.

Sat in hospital minding a relative so plenty of time to talk today! The 0230 start is starting to hit though, I don't do early.

Does Rocksmith help? It looked more like a twitch game to me.

It feeds my "fun" requirement and teaches me some good songs. Definitely helps although the latency and ability to make any guitar sound like shite is a drawback. Headphones helps with the latency but it kills off higher notes far too quickly.

Good work. But you might be over qualified for this thread. How long playing and is that an LPJ?

LP Melody Maker ;-)....its my current "go to" guitar for messing about.

I was actually doing it to try out some Kemper sounds !

I also had a go at Ed Sheeran....my pal is the vocalist..

I am prepared to contribute to this thread but first i am going to have to find a cassette player in my house that  still works! then i need to transfer it to a digital format.

I recorded multi tracks in 1984 ish, by bouncing between two cassette recorders and had to contend with progressive retuning for each bounce as the 'play' machine ran at a slightly different speed to the 'record' machine! It was also important to record anything you wanted to stand out last as the quality degradation at each bounce was appalling.

You all have it too easy today! :0)

Dear god do I really want to do this? (you are gonna have to give me a while)

didn't George Martin and the Beatles do something like that to make Sgt. Pepper? So you're in good company.
