Live music in Portsmouth area?

Hi all,
What are some good places to go and see live music in the Portsmouth area? I know the Wedgewood Rooms and Pyramids, but I'm looking more for your regular pub and club bands. Also interested in jam nights.

I've lived here all my life and have massively neglected actually going out and watching bands and would really like to start getting more involved in it.

Cheers

What kind of stuff are you into?

You'll find pub gigs all over the place.  Here are a few off the top of my head (some of which I play at fairly frequently):

    Wine Vaults (every Thursday)
    King St Tavern
    Drift Bar
    Fawcett Inn
    Shepherd's Crook
    Pelham Arms
    Old House at Home
    Jolly Sailor
    Eastney Tavern
    RMA

    Then in terms of clubs:
    Rifle Club (near Fratton Station)
Square Tower (Square Roots promotions put on some really good stuff)
    Ashcroft Centre in Fareham

Not forgetting all the festivals that happen during the year.  If you fancy the Wickham festival by the way, get in touch- I'm playing this year and can get discounted tickets.

The Heroes in Waterlooville have live music every Friday and Sat ... My band plays every month.  There's also live music at the Admiral Drake, The Tap, The Golden Eagle, The Old House at home and loads of other local pubs in and just outside Portsmouth such as The Curlew, The Lord Raglan, The spotted Cow, The Woodpecker

I along with another guy run an open mic night every month at The Heroes and every month at the Chairmakers in Denmead. Come along with your guitar to one of those, it's friendly and laid back.
Check out The acoustic Sessions on Facebook for details .....

Ignore the acoustic part I always play electric :)

On July 21 and 22nd there's a big music festival in a large field at the Chairmakers, see here

@Danny1969 - that's quite a list!  No wonder you're busy.  A few of those names are familiar - I think a mate of mine depped on bass for the Superheroes once.

I've been in loads of band over the years, but currently it's:

The Bog Rolling Stones (as Keef)

Thee Sultan Sheiks (quirky pop/rock classics)

The Courtiers (trad and original folk)

The Drystone Cowboys (yes, both country AND western!)

Yep that's us!  I did a few gigs with the Humbugs when I first met them in '94 (before we put the full Bogs thing together).  Small world, eh?

I didn't see the first band on Saturday unfortunately.  Good to know the kids are still getting out there and making a racket though!  A bit different from their usual audience I bet  :)
