And I am joining my friends on stage this Sunday to play at a Family Fun Day beside the Royal Canal harbour in Thomastown, (Co. Westmeath). The event is outdoors, hope the weather remains good, our little band has a drummer, rhythm guitarist/vocals, lead guitarist/vocals and I play bass also backing vocals. A long day beckons, details of the event here:
http://thomastownroyalcanal.net/family-fun-day-2017/We have spent a few evenings preparing a set list, getting the intros and outros as good as we can. Nothing more that we can do now except hope that all our equipment works and the weather is good. Anyone who is in the area is very welcome to come along.....

You've waited long enough.
Relax and enjoy your self.
It was some experience though, seeing people react to the songs we played. Perhaps surprisingly, I don't want to gig very often. Once a year is often enough for me. We are booked for next years Family Fun Day.
We had a great day all told, the sun shone and the crowds turned out. And they stayed. The organizing committee put a lot of effort in, it is amazing how much thought is needed for such a day. First Aid, Security, Car Parking, Stewards to direct traffic not to mention the fact that it was held beside a canal. AFAIK nobody actually fell in!
As I said above, playing live is a great experience. Everyone who plays music ought to try it at least once. So if you get the chance, go for it.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that now the bug has bitten, you might find yourself on stage again before next year's event

Some interesting feedback, a lady who plays classical flute [to a very high standard] told us that a lot of young people were amazed that we could 'create' music as we did. Their only experience of music was from a device of one sort or another or from watching shows on TV. On TV the focus is on the singer and/or the dancers, the music is just there. Most of them had never seen or heard a live band playing guitars and drums before.

With set set up and sound check we probably take an hour although that's not everyone doing something all the time, PA and drums are the slowest ( especially our drummer).

When we use the backdrop and lights it takes us an hour.
