If you have Amazon Prime, then "Roadies" is well worth checking out.

  • Iron Maiden - Flight 666. Lots of laughs and some great music. A great positive film showing a band bringing joy to many parts of the world few bands reach.

If we are not ashamed to think it, we should not be ashamed to say it.

Nobody's mentioned Almost Famous yet, which is one of my favourites.

If you like Once and Begin Again, the same writer/director is responsible for Sing Street, which is also very good.

Unquestionably the best rockumentary ever made - or ever likely to be.
Joking aside, it does have some good pop-rock songs in it. Adam Duritz of Counting Crows and Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne wrote several of them.

Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.

    Still Crazy.

There was a brief mention of it in the thread @HAL9000 linked to but I'm surprised it's not better known.

Gainsbourg: Vie Heroic is good, but rather different than your standard biopic. Probably not worth it if you only know/like Je t'aime...

Ah yes, love that. Not seen it for quite a while. But it's a good laugh. Obvious references to lots of real bands - especially Deep Purple - Bill Nigh is definitely the David Coverdale of the story.

Ohh  Google Play has it in HD. That's tonight sorted.

Thanks so much folks.  Sorry I hadn't replied sooner, been pretty much buried in feeling sorry for myself and anxious. I know I have no reason to but it's just kinda taken over a bit.
Thereare some great suggestions there that I will work my way through! Thanks loads!

I'm sure there are references in there that went over my head.  The first time I saw it I didn't get the one with the band name.

So watched it again last night. Great fun.

The Fruits are an amalgam of lots of band stories.  Nighe does seem like Coverdale coming in to a band that's already big. Though Brian's story is more like Syd Barrett.

I was disappointed they didn't do another series.

  • I Saw The Light
    Miles Ahead
    Whiplash
    The Wrecking Crew
    Montage of Heck
    The Last Waltz
    All Is By My Side
    Ricki and the Flash
Once and maybe the sequel Begin Again

    Oh yeah...and Coyote Ugly ;)

I second this, Whiplash is Phenomenal. It's soooo good. School of Rock is a little less intense though :)

There's a James Brown autobiography film which is banging as well. RockStar with Mark Wahlburg is hilarious :D

  • 'Get on up'? Must check that out.

If you liked Whiplash, I reckon you'll love Miles Ahead ;)

    Thought of two more:
    Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll
    24 Hour Party People
