Tramadol is on the list of Prescription medication that the Police treat the same as alcohol

Technically this isn't correct - if it's a prescribed medication there isn't a legal limit for taking them.  There's only a limit if you're taking them without a prescription.

However it is an offence to drive impaired, which by your own definition you are, so clearly a good idea to stay off the road until you're off them.  People getting addicted to prescribed opioids seems like an increasingly common problem.  Best of luck.

    Thanks.

In the last week or so I've managed to come down to using only about 4-5 per day from waking up to sleeping but I'd have to stay at that level now as any less just won't keep the pain away.
I am still however not fit to or confident in driving so I'm still going to give it a miss and catch the very kind lift I've been offered.
Add to the way I feel, the fact that I've not been behind the wheel at all in around 16 months and it's a recipe for disaster if I did.
Thanks for the legal Info, that's useful. I had misunderstood it, I simply don't want to cause any harm.

It's very worrying being "On" something like this that I have to take or I'll get withdrawal symptoms. I didn't find this out until I'd been taking them for a few weeks. There wasn't a choice though, I tried the other pain killers and they don't work and when Rheumatology are talking October at the earliest for the specialist referral then there didn't seem to be much choice.

    Thanks for looking that up @modellista ;

You are being very sensible, the state some people are willing to get behind the wheel in is terrifying, glad you could get a lift.

You're welcome.  I have a relative who I suspect is in a similar situation - the painkillers are needed for back and leg pain and they're not quite the same person when they're on them, but can't stop taking them both due to the pain and, I think, due to dependency.  Quite a quandary.  They are still driving though, hence my knowing the exact legal standpoint.

    I feel for you.
I get bouts of stupid feelings and anxiety which I have to work hard to control but since I started them a couple of months ago I've learned how to recognise that and my two closest friends have been an incredible support with that.
I have no doubt I'm dependant on them now, in fact, one day a couple of weeks ago I tried not taking them one day to see what would happen and the effects the next day were horrific. I quickly started again and within hours everything was fine.......the magic pill. THAT is not a nice feeling, knowing I can't stop taking them.
I know I will do eventually, I'll have to reduce one each day over a period of time etc.

I have found it's made me VERY clumsy, far much more than normal and to the point where I'm worried about doing some of the things I would normally find very easy.
Yesterday I slipped while installing some tremolo springs in the back of my Ibanez and put 3 fairly big scratches into the back of the guitar. Things like that make me feel really bad about myself and like I'm useless and that's not me. It makes me feel really worried about doing other things too, sometimes even basic things.

It's not long term though and the guitar can be fixed.
I'm going to speak to our resident paint guru when I can and ask him to try to repair it. It's on the back and I suppose out of sight but it's a 1-month-old guitar and otherwise, it's pristine condition. I had just finished fitting all new pickups and wiring, which ironically I had no problem doing.........Go figure.

Hopefully, the Hospital will work out why I'm in so much pain (It came on without warning or reason in June) and then I can get 'Off' the Tramadol and maybe take either something less serious or nothing at all if they can fix the problem.

If it weren't for my friends I would have cracked.

I had only just come through rehab when all this started and despite the pain and the feelings, I'm still clean. 5 months yesterday. Given that I only have to go 2 minutes from where I live to get 'Some' I'm quietly impressed with myself for that but what gets me is that I'm not exactly "Clean" when I'm on Tramadol. I put a lot of hard work into pulling myself through rehab only to find that I have to feel like this almost immediately afterwards when I should have been enjoying being actually clean and feeling clear headed.
If I hadn't cleaned up though, I'm sure this would all be a lot worse though and I don't miss my old lifestyle.
I'm cleaner than I was and this Tramadol is helping in its way, plus it doesn't rinse my bank account so I've still got my life back in many ways.

I've had to put my plans for the Gym off until next year though!
    lol

Thanks for letting me talk about it.
This has been driving me up the wall for weeks now.

    On the Day Logistics..

    Backline

Given the quick turnaround times and slot lengths (10 mins) for each song (!) we need to minimise setup and backline changes. So..

    - Drums - won't change
    - Keys - won't change
    - Bass - I will bring Helix/Head/Cab, @Slacker - you can use mine or your own if you prefer - I presume you will want to use your own bass, but I suggest we set them up and leave them. @TTony - you get a choice of either, or house rig, and of course, I will bring a bass you can use (and practise on if you want!)
    - Guitars - I suggest that Amps are ready to go in the song before you are on, at the front, and just need moving and plugging in. Ideally, plug in and set up in the nearest break and then you're ready to go. Bring your boards (if you have one) and have them ready to go in the song before you are on so all you need to do is plug them in.
    - There will be a DI cable for Acoustics set up

    General logistics for smooth flow

    - Tune up before your song - so you don't waste time tuning!
    - Make sure you are in the room, ready to go, set up with all your gear (inc guitar out the case!) in the song before yours
    - At the start of the song, we will have a quick chat about structure, starting etc. then straight in to it!
    - Make sure you get your bits together speedily after your song ready for the next one!

    Etiquette

    - In the main room, please be quiet during songs. Try to keep talking to a minimum to allow the players the best chance of a good go at it
    - No playing in the main room when songs are being performed at all please
    - In the second room it may be a bit chaotic, but that's ok - you can make noise as you like there (!)
    - Raucous applause, encouragement, joining in singing etc. is encouraged
    - Please do stay for songs if you can - it's great for those playing to get a feel for what an "audience" is like - but only if you aren't doing something else!
    - Recording is only allowed if all players agree - if you want to record, ask before the song starts
    - Unless you're asked for a critique, try to keep comments post performance positive - we really do want beginners to go away encouraged and buzzing (I am however more than happy for everyone to tell me my bass playing is crap - It's nothing I haven't heard a thousand times ;) )

Most of all though, this is supposed to be a fun day. Don't feel pressured into anything. Don't worry, and don't panic.

Me, @Alnico, and the modmins will be around to ask questions of, help, advise, and all that sort of good stuff.

  • Re vocals:

Anyone who's singing is welcome to use my voicelive, and I'll probably leave it setup all day. I'm currently assuming we'll want 2 patches bit if anyone wants anything different let me know. Each patch can have two settings: An always on set of effects, and a "hit" button set of effects.

    Eg patch one:
    On- Reverb, Natural Tune Assist
    Hit Button- Doubler + Harmonies

If you're singing you can hit either the pedal or the button on the mic to toggle the hit effects.

If anyone wants anything specific set as a patch it's pretty simple for me to save it under the song name so just let me know. Otherwise I'll likely just stick with the above and another patch with Doubling always on for anyone who's not confident their voice is strong enough.

As a complete noob to performing, and not sure of the intention on the day, can you clarify what this means?  Is it assuming we're each bringing and using our own amp?

I've been having a think about this.

Because of timings and how crowded the schedule is, can I suggest that by default 3 willing volunteers set up their amps for the duration of the Jam as our "backline".

People can then just bring guitar/lead/board up to the front to play, unless you have a specific desire to use your amp - in which case do say now so I can plan it in.

This means we can balance the backline before starting - note if you use your own amp there is no guarantee we will be able to balance levels properly.

3 volunteers to provide the backline?

That would be a lot more sensible than trying to swap amps for each song.

IIRC, last time we were there, they did have a couple of hire rooms amps plugged in and ready to go too.  One was an old Marshall stack, can't remember what the other one was.  Given that the purpose of this meet-up is to play stuff, it's probably more important to have an amp that works than to worry too much about the subtleties of its tonal characteristics?

Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

Exactly - I'd prefer to have 3 amps permanently ready to go with levels set and people just plug straight in or plug their boards in.

If there's house amps then we can use them, otherwise I need a few volunteers ;)

Not been in the big room before but they've had a couple of decent amps in each room I've been in before from memory. Got a feeling one room had a mesa stack and a HRD as I recall
