Ok, I've doing some charting out of song structures.

This is essentially what I'll be playing along to on the day.
They are an aid to memory, rather than a proper chart with notation etc (which I don't need as I'm drumming).

If people want a copy of these then I can post all of them up in a folder and you can print out the ones you need.
I won't be able to print out copies for everyone though.

On songs like this where there is a fadeout in the recording I'll just give a drummerly cue, opening the hihats up in the 2nd last bar, or starting to slow down a bit towards the ending (which is called either a Rittardando or Rallentando).
    Let's just wing that stuff.

    All cool?

That one is a good example of the kind of thing it's going to be a challenge to keep everyone together on - I'd noted the extra bars on the G at the end of C2 & C3 (but not C1) and written myself a reminder, but on a one off jam these types of details are a challenge and half the band can be off playing a different section before you know it. Maybe before we start each track we should just share any thoughts between us on potential pitfall details like that to try and nail?

Sounds good, also if the singer is playing an instrument I tend to follow them. I've done stuff where things have gone wrong and not clusterfudged because the band followed the singer. I've done 2 beat bars, extra chorus whatever.

To be honest, I've just realised that I should stop whining about Cupid's Dead. @bigjon has a much tougher job than I do, since he's playing exactly what I am...on bass
"Transcribed" and ready to go ;-)

Hi guys, I've not been around as much lately, so if I can arrange a lift, I am happy (?!?) to consider Impmann's strategy, and just busk it on the day if there is a free spot on something.  Or just sit it out and enjoy the company, the playing and the workshops, and the atmosphere, and to contribute whatever I can.  Happy to just be a part of it TBH   O:-)

Good point - agreeing who we follow if things go awry could really help too

    Yup, good idea.
We chose songs that for the most part won't need to much discussion but always good to talk about things first.

There will be a few songs I won't bother charting out- Mustang Sally and Midnight Hour are two that come to mind.

Ok, I've done 7 songs now.

    Get them here:

    http://www.jamesrichmond.com/fretboardjam/

I'm thinking I won't bother with Midnight Hour, Mustang Sally and Crossroads as the first two are so well known and the last one is basically the same thing all the way through with solos dropping in and out.

Or at least I will try to do them once I've done all the others- we'll see.

I've done basic structure sheets for all the songs I'm going to play on (it helps me loads get my head round learning the song). They are here. It appears I am still down to play on Call Me The Breeze but I'm going to wing that.

Ok all of my charts are up there now except for Cupid's Dead and Comfortably Numb, which I won't be able to post due to the notation system I am using isn't something I can post publicly. (Long story)

    http://www.jamesrichmond.com/fretboardjam/

I'm not doing Midnight Hour, Mustang Sally and Crossroads for the reasons stated above.
I'll pick a couple of tracks out to chat about over the week- there are a few songs that have weird bar numbers- for instance one of the Tom Petty tracks has a chorus with 13 bars followed by a chorus of 15 bars, or Shake a Tailfeather which has just one verse and then loads of pre-chorus type things into the chorus.
These are the things that catch people out in jam session but we should be able to make it clear what will happen in each track and if we fuck up then just look to me and I'll try to do my best to cue the next section.

I'm going to be reading the charts the whole way through but with a couple of excepts I'll have the brain space to be able to cue parts for people if they watch me. (Not in Cupid's Dead- that will be an uphill struggle just to get through without fucking up).

Anyhoo- I'm looking forward to it chaps and I really hope everyone enjoys the day.

Oh, and make sure you bring earplugs.

Ok, I've been chatting to Lee about Cupid's Dead.

I've got a bit of a tricky week coming up so it is going to be difficult for me to get everything done, get the rest of the tracks up to speed and get this to a level where I am happy with it.

Can anyone else step in on drums for this track?
I know it is a bit late notice.

Get in touch with Lee @digitalscream or myself and we can go over the particulars.

If not then I'll just do my best on the day.

Hi everyone. Sorry for not posting in a while, and thanks to @Alnico for checking in on me. I've had a pretty rough run at work, followed by moving back in with my parents as my flatmate's girlfriend moved in. All amicable, but just been busy and run down. As long as everyone's happy, I'll be there on Saturday to say hi, but won't be playing along.

Thanks to everyone who's putting time in to help make this happen.

    Cheers.

    Paul.

Ok- regarding "Sunshine of your Love".

The drums in this track have a weird off kilter feel to them that in my experience only manages to confuse things.
It is because Ginger is playing the snare on the 1.
I won't be doing that on the day- I'll play something more conventional so we all know where the 1 is and I'll try to cue the sections changes for people too.

I don't think there is anything else that needs too much discussion- I seem to be able to get through Cupid's Dead so that should just be a matter of if it works then it works.

There are a few other tricks here and there, like Running Down a Dream, which has two choruses back to back of different lengths (13 and 15 bars respectively) but things like that we can sort out on the day.
I'm happy to go off-piste too- if people want to simplify things or kick things up a gear then I am up for it, provided I have the energy.
Just keep feeding me drinks and cake and I shouldn't complain too much.

I won't get much of a chance to do much more between now and then but I'm confident that my side of things is in hand.

    See you all on Sunday.
