  • I've never listened to them. Where's a good place to start? I'm listening to "Anthology" on Deezer at the moment - is this as good a place as any?

  • Anthology is actually a pretty good compilation...a few of the tracks are in a truncated form (both "Soup" and "Halleluwah" spring to mind), so if you find yourself liking them, head to the individual albums for more of the same.  Ege Bamyasi and Tago Mago are probably the "essential" ones, but I think Future Days is right up there too.  Czukay gave up bass duties in the band later on, and I wouldn't bother going much beyond Flow Motion.

Such a sad loss. He and Jaki Liebezeit were a fantastic rhythm section.

I had the pleasure of sitting right next to Holger at a Weather Report concert, Hammersmith Odeon, maybe '79 or '80. Big guy, sheepskin coat, beautiful woman with him. We may even have shared a smoke (!) but I don't recall. Some fans came up to him to say hello, however I left him alone as we'd just watched Jaco Pastorius at the top of his game, absolutely blazing.
