P Bass - what colour?

What's Hot
BridgehouseBridgehouse Frets: 24579
I have a P Bass body ready for making up.. this one won't be a relic but will be standard gig tool no.1 (hopefully)

With that in mind, what colour (or not!) should I go for?

  • I've always had a soft spot for fiesta red with a black guard, or white blonde with tortoiseshell.

Either of those might go very well with the current stable.

Is it a crime to consider fiesta red with a tort guard?

White/black/maple or black/black/rosewood. I have the latter and it's a really sexy bass
If we are not ashamed to think it, we should not be ashamed to say it.

    I've got a black/gold/maple 50s MiM and black is a great colour for a P.

    My '74 is white/black/maple - well, to be fair it's custard/black/maple now...

The '64 is sunburst and tort so as trad as it gets. I'm looking for something a little different, but not too different!!

    You've already won 1st Prize

What type of fretboard is on the new one. I try to balance the body and pickguard with the neck.

Rosewood - big and wide like the 64 so quite a decent slab of it ;)

At the moment I've got a Fender MIM maple neck on a black body with black scratchplate, bridge, pickups, knobs.

I'm looking for some machines at the moment, but in the interim I put on some black ones from my parts box and it looked really good!

It'd be a crime not to:

  • Sherwood green with a gold guard? Or butterscotch with a single ply black guard? Fiesta red with a gold guard would look super classy.

It's gotta be a black body with a black pickguard, and then you claim the 2nd Prize too  You can also keep a tortoise shell pickguard in reserve, just in case you fancy a change.

I quite like sunburst with a black guard.

  • Some form of sparkle finish with a black guard.

I really liked the look of the old Steve Harris signature, but not so fussed on the mirror guard.

  • It has to be a copy of Bruce Foxton's Black Precision that he used with The Jam. Maple neck and was it a mirror scratch plate or was it a black scratch plate?

    Don't paint it at all.

Put a nice dark tortoise guard on it and make it a John Deacon tribute.
