Guilty Pleasure Music

What's Hot
I like pitch modulated songs sped up to sound like Chipmunks.

I also like;

This video made me appreciate the O' Bar in Soho when I saw the video years later and recognised the bar.
I liked this song when it came out.

Any 'guilty pleasures'?

Also, another one for me.

  • I love this song too;

    New Jersey/Seaside Heights in Ocean County near Toms River is fun.
    So much so I once recorded;

    (Which though it's an Amazing rebuild of  broken Samick built Epiphone with all new American electronics from @FelineGuitars - this guitar still doesn't have that 2014 Gibson VOS 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard Neck Profile I crave).
    Fine guitar however.

    Not sure she counts as a guilty pleasure,though she does seem to appeal more to young females,rather than middle aged blokes,but mine is Lourde.

    These performances,to me anyway,are absolutely mesmerising.

  • I sort of get sort of don't get the guilty pleasures thing ( I share an office with people who are unembarrassed about watching X Factor but didn't know who Led Zeppelin were ) as almost any response just demonstrates how out of touch I am with modern popular music since about 1979.
    However, on the Chipmunks I do have a Canned Heat compilation somewhere which includes Christmas Boogie by the Heat and the small furry ones and it's pretty much my favourite track on there. I'm a sucker for novelty shite.

    You would struggle to find better written songs than "West Coast" or "Confide in Me" respectively... both are very talented women with some superb songs.  I actually hate the term "pop song" to describe them, as if they are in some way less worthy than some other acts because they weren't formed down the pub!

    I've always had a thing about Girls Aloud, "Wake Me Up" has a totally killer riff on it.  Their songwriters just seemed to have free reign to do anything as long as it was good.  A bit like the best of new wave, IMHO.
    We have to be so very careful, what we believe in...

    Sound of the underground is a fairly catchy pop punk tune that seems quite well written.  I realise not guilty pleasures but I am constantly mocked by my friends for listening to the carpenters (mainly due to my wife) dolly parton, john Denver and the like.

    Unless you get your pleasures the same way Kevin Spacey (allegedly) does, I'm not sure "music you enjoy but some people think isn't cool" is anything to be guilty about in any case.  Other people often suck, life is too short to care what they think! :)

    I would say Carly Rae Jepsen, but she seems to be cool in indie circles now

    Barbra Streisand... Also Michael Buble.  A fair bit of unfashionable 80s pop.

  • I can't see myself ever feeling guilty for liking music.

    Especially not for a stone cold classic like These Boots Are Made For Walking.

    It is rather good,isn't it @stickyfiddle ;

    I think guilt is probably the wrong word.She's just completely different from anything I usually listen to.My musical taste is definitely softening as I get older.

    On a slight tangent,has anyone else noticed how much Taylor Swifts new material sounds like Lourde?Same producer,I think.

    Greatest form of flattery,and all that.

    I agree that the term Guilty Pleasure usually seems to mean 'not considered cool.' So in that vein I'm going for Abba. I have a cd box set of everything they ever recorded - every album, single, b-side and rarity. And I love it.

    I must confess to really liking 2 Little Boys by Rolf Harris.

    and on a more serious note, Abba are totally cool. Fantastic song writing skills (yes, the lyrics are a bit kitcsh, but the musicianship is top notch) combined with 2 fantastic singers. What's not to like.

    I'm not locked in here with you, you are locked in here with me.

    Agreed on both camps - the first album is perfectly produced (and by the same guy as Carly Rae Jepsen's last album)
