Noel Redding for being the stable influence that just about held other pair in check
John Paul Jones for much the same
John Entwhistle for being a monster
Mani for just being solid and grooving so well with Reni's drums
Simon Jones from the Verve for some top basslines and grooves

I'm gonna be boring and say Mark King. Mainly because he was the first one I really listened to as a kid who did bass and vocals, which is what I wanted to do

Glenn Cornick, Andy Fraser and Felix Pappalardi sparked my interest in bass. Alan Spenner and Gerald Johnson for their melodic rhythmic invention.

Paul McCartney  - bass playing overshadowed by him 'being' Paul McCartney. I know he accepted the role rather than wanted it but he really came up with some catchy yet inventive stuff.

  • Wisdom for Paul McCartney. I didn't realise how complex his lines are until my band decided to learn a few Beatles songs.

How have we got this far with no mention of Matt Freeman?! Maxwell Murders is the famous bass solo, but I LOVE playing Tenderloin.
