Revelation Guitars (by Alan Entwistle) - are they a decent rival to Vintage (brand), Squier etc?

I'm scouting around in the sub £400 sections of the guitar world and came across Revelation Guitars.

Are Revelation to Alan Entwistle what Vintage are to Trevor Wilkinson?

Their website is here: https://www.revelationguitars.co.uk/

It only shows a small selection of models - they seem to have produced more in the past as found on a quick Google search.

  • I played a left-handed Jazzmaster style about two years ago and the finish was fantastic. If I had the money at the time, it would have come home with me.

I have a 12 string Jag type, couldn't believe how good it was for the sub £300 I paid for it

  • I've got one of their lap steels, it's really well put together. They do a BassVI type thing which is VERY cool too.
Another brand within that price range that's worth investigation is Harley Benton- Thomann's home brand. Nice guitars, VERY comparable to Vintage and they have Wilkinson pickups etc too.

I agree with the finish being well done.I never got to play one.But they looked very well made.
Having said that alot of the budget guitars I have seen are very well made for the price.

I've often thought about pulling the trigger on one of their electric 12s.

Picked up a used neck for a partscaster, recently. Feels very similar to my classic vibe tele neck. Very nice!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

So it's slim like a Squier?

This one was. Slight v feel to it. Other than the maple fretboard as opposed to the rosewood, it’s indistinguishable (to me, at any rate) from my classic vibes neck. The tele is this model: https://www.dawsons.co.uk/squier-classic-vibe-telecaster-custom-rosewood-neck-three-colour-sunburst?gclid=Cj0KCQiAlpDQBRDmARIsAAW6-DMeLRwotstHqEWFIzNcSgtaw2fzQdOBevM6mwU2Y3CAacy0hUj0pWwaAtP6EALw_wcB

I’d be well up for trying a full guitar from the Revelation brand!

I've got a Baja telecaster but I'm still tempted to get an RT54 the one I tried was truly awesome for the price. Has a soft V neck but runs down to slim quickly. The pickups are very good in my opinion.

  • I've played a 'standard' Revelation Tele in yellow which was nice enough, and also a thinline model which played nicely. Not bad for the money, and the RTE with the neck bucker and hot rails style pickup in the bridge looks a tempting one.

I have the 12 string offset and while it’s very obvious where the money has been saved, it feels really good in the hands, plays impeccably and really importantly for a 12, it’s stable and stays in tune well. Even with the slightly odd addition for a 12 string of a trem system.

I dont think it has the feel of solid build quality that a Squier does though.

I've never had, or even seen, a Revelation, but I've had several Vintage guitars - Les Paul, Flying V, Trini Lopez - all fine  guitars , and all thankfully gone now. I'd never buy another. Cheap facsimilies of what you really want leave you feeling hollow - like having a fake Rolex, and convincing yourself it's just as good or better because  looks similar, costs a fraction of the real thing and quartz keeps better time than clockwork!

And why the fuck do they ruin the Jazzmaster lookee likee by fitting a cheap nasty strat-type tremolo to it, when they obviously have access to the perfect Jazzmaster tremolo bridge that they fit to their Vox lookee likee and fake Jazzmaster bass!?

I'm a fan, I have the purple Jazzmaster RJVT and Brian Jones type teardrop, which in their latest version they got wrong.VTX64, great VFM, but do need a luthier to get them playing well.

the 12 string jag was met with mucho enthusiasm by the offsetguitars mob. maybe visit the forum and check out the threads. probs the best source of reviews for it so far.

i won't buy anything i can't try first, and i just haven't seen one yet which is frustrating. but planning a trip to a nearby city soon and will be looking out for them.
not really bothered about the fender offset clones (though they are supposed to be excellent) as i have had a few squier offsets and am bored of them now, but i'm totally on for a decent cheap teardrop. cheap vox clones are usually megasuck, so high time someone got it right.
