I'm building this for my Uncle. Once  Michael @Modulus-Amps is back off his hols, I shall be putting together one of his kits, but I thought I'd make a start in the mean time.

With my last ampbuild, the cab was quite crudely screwed together, so I'm trying to be a bit more refined in my joinery. I'm learning on the job though - those finger joints are rough as arseholes. I've bought some filler....

I made something very similar and the box joints weren't perfect either as I did them with a small hand saw and a chisel. I used epoxy to fill the gaps and it worked a treat as it runs into the gaps and fills them completely.

Thanks @victorludorum , I've bought the glue and filler, so I'll crack on as planned, but I'll keep that in mind for next time - assuming I haven't got any better at carpentry!

  • It'll be fine. I only used glue as I couldn't be bothered buying any wood filler!

I glued it up, routed the edges off and routed some channels for piping this weekend - not very exciting, but progress all the same.

    Anyway.... SPEAKER!

My uncle want a Celestion Greenback in there, which seems entirely appropriate.

Looking at used on ebay, there seem to be a lot more 16Ohms flying about than 8Ohms. My immediate instinct was to use an 8Ohm speaker. The finished amp will have 8 and 16Ohm outs.

Is there any disadvantage in using the 16Ohm out and a 16Ohm speaker?

If you have 16 and 8 ohm outputs, I'd go for a 16 ohm speaker in the combo.  It gives you the option of running a 16 ohm extension cab with it (for an 8 ohm load) if you ever need to.

OK thanks, I doubt my uncle will ever need to do this, but worth bearing in mind.

Moved the wrong resistor, but I can't find the 2.2M that should go in it's place, so I'll have to source one.

Not quite finished there - a couple of wires still to hook up...

    Bit of a Christmas break!

With help from @Modulus-Amps I've got the amp up and running, and the cab is coming on too.
