I prefer Reverb these days - buying overseas is no less a white knuckle ride though
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

  • What are the seller fees on Reverb? Was thinking of putting my Gretsch on Reverb as well. Do they just take a %?
3.5% from the final sale amount. No listings/insertions/extraphotos/etc etc fees either

  • Free listing codes... Hmm...

I personally don't have an issue with paying a reasonable fee to a good site to connect me with a buyer. And the reverb fees are reasonable. I've not been tempted to do a deal outside, because that won't help them grow. I think that's the main beef people have with that other mob... They want a slice of the pie that's too big and are prepared to ride tough shod over their customers to get it.

Congrats on a job well done mate and I wish you guys continued success.
Thank you very much. FWIW I think the fee is very reasonable too, when you consider what you get for it whether its the content, the videos, the sales not to mention that its free to list on the platform. The next big thing for us is the launch of direct checkout in the EU, which will do away with Paypal issues.

    I agree with @Legionreturns here.
I have had good experiences in the last year, both as buyer and seller, and the fees are fair.  I would absolutely love it if Reverb could grow but maintain a community feel and become the first port of call for music related sales.
Maintaining that community feel is the number one priority for us, it guides pretty much every decision we make, whether its sales or customer service or developments to the site.

I've sold quite a few things on Reverb this year - mostly pedals - each one has been a very straighforward transaction with no issues.

The only thing is these days people seem relunctant to leave any form of feedback, but that's not just Reverb, that happens on here as well.

    Feedback for you Iain...

I'm loving the improvements to find stuff for sale in the UK - but I am finding a *HUGE* amount of duplicate listings. I guess this is folks relisting to bump it back up the order but its frustrating to search through the same ads over and over.

I've not sold anything yet on Reverb - but I think I'll try it next time around. Fed up with dickheads on the other site...

Really ? Could you email me over some and I'll investigate. They shouldn't be doing that as we have a "bump" system built into the site. Theres no need to create duplicate listings to bump it up the search.

It could be the way I'm viewing it... I clicked on the link on the home page for items in the UK (nice one!) and below is the link it diverts to:

    https://reverb.com/marketplace?condition=used&item_region=GB

If you scroll through, you'll notice a number of ads that get duplicated - the Carlsboro Top 50 seems to pop up on pages 1, 7, 9, 13 etc for example. There appear to be others... but it could be just a display thing.

is it for this listing ? https://reverb.com/item/7164128-carlsboro-top-50-1973-purple-blue-yellow
If it is, the seller has bumped it using the bump system, thats why it will appear multiple times as you go through all the UK listings. When you bump an item it will appear in the top row of listings that have the Reverb Bumped border around them.

OK, thanks for the clarification... but its still frustrating and a touch misleading. It says 6472 listings but if a lot are just duplicates due to bumping the order then its not 6472 items for sale, is it?

I get the answer, I get the logic but its frustrating and annoying to see the same ads page after page. Perhaps a proper 'bump' would mean the listing is just moved up the order like it is on here, rather than a duplication.

    :-)

The listings count only counts individual listings. The bumped impressions don't count towards the overall total. I can see where you are coming from with the annoyance. They are always set to the top of the page however, so its easy enough to scroll past when trawling the site. Also they change at random depending on whats been bumped.

With all respect to Ian and Reverb, the best way to browse reverb imo is to actively ignore the 'Reverb bump' listings. I mentally filter those out on every page view....The same way I do with sidebar ads and banner ads on other sites.

OK - it is a little confusing, though. The 'bumped' ads really need to be clearer that they aren't part of the general listing - I've just spotted the slightly darker grey border around them. Thats not a great differentiation line - especially when you have the "popular products" line along the top that is exactly the same size, same colour etc as the main listing... theres a lot fighting for your attention with no hierarchy within the graphics to tell you where to look first.

It just comes across as duplication to a punter such as myself - thats the feedback. :-)

Hi Ian, it's really interesting to see reverb taking off and it's encouraging to see you here at ground level, asking about experiences and engaging with feedback. it feels a very humane way to do business, which is refreshing and endearing.

i have recently moved my music stuff to 'collection only' gumtree, but obviously a dedicated music site with a decent delivery option would be a far better bet. i have been thinking about reverb but not done much research.

my biggest concern preventing me from going back to 'delivery' selling is a fear of theiving idiots ordering things then trying to scam me via a sod-the-seller returns system.
ebay just doesn't seem to want to acknowledge that their system is wide open to abuse of that kind, despite all the evidence.

if it is possible to answer in a few sentences, how are you addressing that side of things?
i am the hired assassin... the specialist. i introduce myself to you... i'm a sadist.
