    One: LP-alike*
    Two: LP & ES-330**
    Three: LP, ES-330, SG Jr

Well I already have an original Jaguar...

I'd like a p90 LP or perhaps a nice Tele.

The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

P90 Les Paul (goldtop or custom)
    Tele
    PRS standard 22

Funny that I'm not including an SG in that when currently that's my only decent guitar.

I agree. "Ideal" varies according to the individual engagement.

I'm going to cheat by providing bass guitar answers.
    1) P type with flatwound strings
    2) J type with roundwound strings
    3) Something fretless
    Be seeing you.

Never played a fretless but totally agree on your first and second choices!

If a deputising gig or recording session warranted a Stingray or a Rickenbacker, I would carry those.

Just out of interest, where would a P with rounds come in your list? Close to the top or way down after different basses?

    Astonishing strat consensus emerging!
Quite surprising really, I'd have thought there would be more LP first choices.

I reckon if this poll was taken on a large scale, the Strat and LP would be quite firmly the top 2 choices.

I've got a PRS Custom 24 and a Strat. When I bought the PRS I didn't know as much about guitars as I do now and, if I could go back, I'd have got a Les Paul instead. Being a 2-humbucker guitar, though, it's close enough to an LP for me to hold back actually buying a Les Paul for the time being. Not that the Custom 24 is bad in any way; being the SE version it was a lot cheaper than a Standard LP even after the upgrades and it doesn't suffer from tuning problems that I hear a lot about Gibsons.

    job jobbed.
Even though you've totted up six guitars, it's great to know your ideal includes three Les Pauls. Top man.

    Edit:

    Should have said
    Les Paul
    Les Paul + Strat
Les Paul + Strat + something a bit spesh
