Fantastic song. I want to hear Tom Waits covering this.
it was the first song I ever heard by them and thought they would be a great new band. Christ was I wrong.
For me it’s not just one song, it’s a band...The Smashing Pumpkins. I should love them, some great riffs/guitar playing/guitar tones/arrangements etc. But after listening to a couple of songs I usually end up jumping to another album & continuing the cycle until I turn them off. I don’t know maybe it’s the vocals or something else that I just don’t "get", I just can’t put my finger on what it is.

My feedback thread is here.
Their first two records are absolutely glorious lo-fi indie. The third LP was OK but was clearly aimed at "going mainstream" and everything since then was distinctly meh.
Get Balsamic Vinegar... Quick You Fool / Starfighter Pilot / 100 Things You Should Have Done In Bed / When It's All Over We Still Have To Clear Up / An Olive Grove Facing The Sea are all great tracks.
The emphasis put on their name really annoys me. It should be Manic, Street Preachers (Street Preachers who are Manic) but DJ's always say it Manic Street, Preachers (the Preachers of Manic Street) which makes no sense at all.
Either way don't like the band, love the song.

Manics did some really good early stuff, You Love Us, loves sweet exile, motorcycle emptiness.
