So, what is your favourite track, or song, at this moment in time ?

I bought a s/h CD - Perfect UnPop - a few days ago.  Compilation of tracks from John Peel's peak (in my mind) mid/late 70s shows.

Including this, which I just keep playing, so it must be my favourite right now.

Oh wow that takes me back - I remember having this on a tape in the car when I was on holiday with three mates from school, it would be 1980 I think.  From memory that tape also had, among others, Karel Fialka "The eyes have it", the TV Personalities "Where's Bill Grundy Now?" and strangely Frank Sinatra's "I've got you under my skin".

Ironically, I could never quite catch all the words to Language School.

  • Today my favourite is Drag My Body by Hot Water Music. I had it on in the lab this morning so loud that the lyrics were audible on the floor below.

I'm a bit late to the party when it comes to Anna Calvi, but I've been playing her 2 albums incessantly over the last few weeks. I'm in love with this...

This just blows my fucking mind every single time I hear it. There's so much going on, and so many different and totally disparate sections, but somehow it's all so cohesive.

It's so complex and yet there are so many memorable moments in it - it never feels like the complexity is for the sake of it.

And I saw them live last week and they pulled off every note of it - nailed it. Fucking hell.

  • For me, these two are in my head at the moment:

Love her voice and delivery, a little bit Dylan, a little bit Lou Reed, little bit Joni Mitchell. Lovely and great to play and sing myself as well

Or there is the less cool option:

Absolutely love his music especially the cover versions he knocks out in next to no time. Improves this song no end with the jazz band treatment and still manages to somehow sound a bit Arctic Monkeys at the same time. Love it

  • If, like me, you've never actually really listened to this:

That niggling little guitar hook. Those synths (especially that minimoog bassline). That groove. That breakdown at the end ("gonna thrill you tonight"). That vocal.

My kids have just discovered Michael Jackson (through Despicable Me 3)- I was never interested much as a kid, and by the time I was a teenager he was pretty much a joke, but shit damn this song is fucking ace.

Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.

  • My current favourite current track.... (all time isn’t possible)

    https://youtu.be/cbOMvegSPpc

Single of the year for me. Rest of the album is shit, but it does so much that I love in music in terms of the song and the production that it’s a clear winner for me at the minute. Video is great too.

Quite liked that @GavRichList but it's a long long way from Sheena is a Parasite and Count In Fives isn't it? What happened to the awesome garage punk sound they were so good at?

I say fair play to them. Judging by the rest of the album it’s somewhat of a one off... but a bloody good one

  • Yeah but they have been a different band since the first album, I went to see them in Birmingham thinking "oh yes some good fuzzy garage punk" and halfway through had to Google check that it was the right band I'd come to see as it bore no resemblance whatsoever!
