During the summer Mrs R and I were going to go to Pocklington (which isn’t too far from us) for “It’s a Pockout” as Cheggers was going to be hosting it. As it was he pulled out due to illness and didn’t end up going.

Didn’t realise his illness was that serious.

  • RIP Keith. I was a big fan of Swap Shop as a nipper. He, Noel, Maggie Philbin and John Craven were a great team.

I'm genuinely sad to hear about this.  His programmes were always a little bit rubbish but that never stopped me watching them, and he always seemed like a really nice chap.

Does anyone remember a BBC kids' programme called Kim & Co, around 1975?  It was about a group of kids who travelled around Europe having various adventures (it was an international co-production, so quite a decent budget).  I'm sure there was an episode where they met a young Cheggers, playing a pop star(!) but the show seems to have been pretty much erased from history.

  • This made me sad.  Keith was one of the good guys.  Yes he had drink issues for a while though Im not sure the public were aware of it, but to die of an unusual lung disorder seems unfair.

I opened the bedroom curtains one morning and was greeted by Cheggers standing outside my house preparing for an outside broadcast for some breakfast show or other.  He spotted me, took a big drag from his fag, smiled, waved and shouted hello.  He seemed a nice chap and gave me a nice little anecdote to post on the internet one day.

Didn’t seem to have a bad bone in his body, and he could take the piss out of himself. RIP Cheggers.

Such a shame, he always seemed like the ultimate chirpy chappie. Happy memories of him smiling away on TV

Years ago, I was on a sky tv programme to which Keith hosted. The act before us (a young female singer) fluffed her lines and broke down in tears. Keith immediately sprung onto the stage and comforted her and also said she could return on a future episode. I was 18 at the time but impressed by his genuine compassion.

    RIP Keith Chegwin
