Sorry, if I’m a bit late to the party, but has RandallFlagg finally been sectioned yet? If not, can someone let him know he just needs to man the fuck up?

    Thanks.

I'm sat in a lay-by with a bottle of gin and a razor blade...

...I'll all fresh faced and smooth after a good shave but the gin does sting a bit as aftershave. I like to splash it all over to feign alcoholism.

I'm a lot happier today, only read one story and that about Trump calling some countries shitholes, which made me laugh.

Oh and it was suggested I am selfish on the L6 thread on here which made me smile.

Yeah, I confess I laughed like fuck about the Trump story too, but then I also think it's hilarious he got elected in the first place.

Does that make me a bad person?

Sorry I had the gin and razor blade but forgot my Oxford English Grammar book. Silly me.

I listened to my car radio yesterday and got adverts and rubbish music.

    So I switched off.

On the Trump latest thing, according to the BBC: Botswana summoned the US ambassador and asked the envoy "to clarify if Botswana is regarded as a 'shithole' country given that there are Botswana nationals residing in the US".

    Thay brought a wry smile...

Link to the thread please. I’m far too lazy to search for it but I want to see that.

Edit - found it and it’s incredibly underwhelming.
This week's procrastination forum might be moved to sometime next week.

R4 news is gloomy, and full of cynicism masquerading as journalism. DAB radio is ace for the commute. Absolute Classic Rock, Planet Rock, Jazz FM, Classic FM, R5 Live, R6, as mood dictates.

Humphrys is a cynical self-important knobber well past his use by date, quite like Eddie Mayer's jollity tbh
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

I have for the last year listened to radio 4 Today programme on the way in to work, and PM with Eddie Mayer for the last 1/2 of my journey home but lately just find everything too depressing:
    • Brexit
    • Trump
    • North Korea
    • Grenfell Tower
    • London & Manchester terror attacks
    • NHS crisis
    • Chinese oil tanker falling apart
    • Landslides in California
    • etc...
    • etc...
    • ...now it's the impending war on plastics and the damage to the environment...
Has the world gone mad? Has everything always felt this bleak and I never noticed? I frequently can't listen to it anymore and often just turn the Radio off and drive in silence.

I find it all so tiring and just want to go back to bed...Am I going mad?

With respect, whilst things like Grenfell Tower were tragic and appalling the rest is pretty tame in comparison to the world 40-50 years ago. Brexit will be sorted (looks like we're going to get a new soft membership package), Trump will be gone, N. Korea is told what to do by China which needs the west to keep it's economy growing.

I started listening to R4 back in the 1960s (my dad would have it on over breakfast). You want depressing try:
    • Vietnam war
    • Nigerian Civil War and Biafran famine
    • Rhodesian Bush War - the atrocities would make your stomach turn
    • Famine in Africa - it still happens but doesn't get reported
    • The troubles in N Ireland and bombs on mainland Britain
    • Oil crisis - petrol rocketed in price and was unavailable
    • Threat of nuclear annihilation in the Cold War
    • SS Torrey Canyon oil spill off Cornwall
    • Three day week and endless strikes
    • Inflation - up from 10.2 per cent in 1973 to 24.6 per cent in 1975
    • Over 3 million unemployed in the 1970s to 1980s
    • Interest rates rocketing - people losing their homes
    • Bhopal disaster
    • Falklands war
    • First Iraq war
    • Useless England football team
    • Etc ...
I think things are actually better these days .. if it stresses you out switch to R2 ... ;-)

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

but then you might stumble on the Steve Wright Show, which would probably induce immediate suicidal thoughts.

forgot to say - as you may know musically I prefer 'trad' Scots / Irish variety mostly and because of this I have listened to Irish radio for decades - not only does it have better assortment of music programing but they're 'news' / current affairs programs are in general excellent -
    viz -
"Just returned home after 6 days in R of Ireland where I enjoyed informative newspapers, and excellent upbeat news, education and entertainment from RTE radio and TV. Then home to @BBCRadioScot greeting on about NHS/SNPbad. I’m going to emigrate if #indy doesn’t come soon."

I haven't heard the term 'knobber' since the mid-eighties when a preference for 'knobhead' and the now illegal 'spazzer' took over.

    Great insult well done.

There are seven billion people in the world. At any one time there is going to be something dreadful happening to some of them. There is also an immense amount of genuine joy happening to some of them. It's up to all of us to decide whether to focus on the good, the bad, or a vaguely proportionate balance of the two. Of course, "the bad" is easier since that's what the noisy, newsy types like to keen about but it's not so much easier that it's unrealistic to pick one of the other options.
