NGD - 1985 Greco EGC500

Picked this up last week and finally managed to put it down long enough to take a few photos. Absolutely blown away by the quality of these MIJ Les Pauls. Over the past year I've bought a Les Paul Faded, Tribute and Studio and this Greco has far better fit and finish (even after 30-odd years of being knocked around). 

There's a few issues that I'm in the process of sorting out - if anyone has any good ideas for how to remove a completely seized tailpiece screw it'd be much appreciated, also open to suggestions for some new pickups...

    +1 on the pick up advice. I have Les Pauls with OX4s and Mojosand both are superb options. Enjoy!

    Nice piece.

    About the seized screw, I would advise that the screw with the bushing is removed from the guitar body. Any brute force to turn the screw while it is in the body risks the bushing splines enlarging the hole in the body.

    You can get special tools from Stew Mac but I have managed to remove bushings using a claw hammer levering against various thickness pieces of wood. Sounds brutal, but copious amounts of foam and thick cloths and polythene taped to the hammer's claws will prevent damage.

    The bushing with seized screw can be heated  with a heat gun and placed in a tin of penetrating oil. Best done outside. Leave it in the oil overnight Place the bushing on a hard surface, put tape over the screw head and give the screw a couple of taps with the hammer. Hold the bushing with wood in a vice and try moving the screw both directions and hope it comes unstuck.

    Thanks mate - glad I read this before I started attacking it with various combinations of screwdrivers and WD40. Will give the claw hammer a go.
