Pseudocode humour, I didn't realise until I signed up here how many guitarists are also IT Professionals!

More accurate: how many guitarists who use the interwebs are also IT professionals. :) OP: best wishes for a speedy recovery! I had a terrible ear episode last year after swimming on my holibobs, went deaf in both ears, ended up having antibiotics and seeing a doc daily for over a week (bit unsure about the necessity of the last bit, but his soft-top Porsche and Maserati [for when it rains] will admittedly not pay for themselves).

My old Dad has the Lughole WaxBerg problem. He's been waiting for months for the GP/District Nurse to sort it out - the saga is on a par with the Monty Python Cheese Shop sketch.

Went to one of the private walk-in centres, saw a doctor (on-time !) - who sorted him out with warm water & syringe (he had been on the Olive oil for 3 months).

She told him to use olive oil no more than once a week now he's clear.
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

    Hope you are OK.

    What did they say?

Just a suggestion, but when I had this the only thing that would take the edge off the pain was one of those gel packs meant for bad backs - heat it in the microwave and hold it against your ear (just be careful not to burn yourself, or that it doesn't burst all of a sudden like the one I used!). The heat seemed to alleviate some of the pressure and reduce the pain.

I would imagine that if it's got bad enough to head to A&E the hospital will probably have a better suggestion but if you're still in a state, give the above a try.

    All the best!

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

Dude...I told you !...forget the ear flushing, trust me Ive done all this over the last 3 months...you have probably aggravated the infection and now its exposed, GP's are not ENT specialists.  You need a specialist rapid, as they did me, they will most likely give you antibiotic drops, then something stronger for the infection, Im now 6 weeks into treatement and its just showing signs of getting better.

Good luck...I know its really frustrating...

Oh....can you list the guitars just in case ;-)

Dont pour anything in your ear...imho

Ive tried em all, and they generally dont work. I suffer with this and have a block starting as I type.

    Here is the solution.

    1. Gently put some hibiscrub in your ear with a cotton wool bud

    2. Wet the bud and add the water to your ear

    3. Lie on yur side and let it run in

    Twice a day. Infection gone.

    Guaranteed.

Thanks everyone. I am never putting anything or touching my ear again. The antibiotics seem to be kicking in and the painkillers are helping so hopefully in a few days it will get better.

worst kind of pain I have felt.

The biggest hassle I have is that I will scratch my ear with my little finger even in my sleep :-(
