Half remembered songs... maybe we can jog each other's memories?

I often half-remember song snippets or lyrics, but have no idea what they are called or who wrote them. Anyone else get the same thing?

Maybe we can help each other out.

There was a song I remember as a kid, it was the early 80's and it was electro pop. I remember it from a compilation album my older brother had on tape, and the lyrics went "All lips in the house, pucker up". Any ideas?

  • Spent about twenty minutes with MrsTheWeary this evening trying to identify a song she’d heard on the radio. Got it eventually but if anyone wants a go from the description I had to work with there’s a wisdom point in it:
‘eighties punky song with synthesisers and a lyric about laser love.’

    Yes!

Got to number 62 in 1979 ( so close on the decade), I don’t think I’ve ever heard it before in my life. Although MrsTheWeary claims never to have heard their Der Kommissar which was number 5 in 1982 in the USA.

  • There was a song on an old skate video from the 80s/90s that went "du-da du-da baam baam du-da du-da du-da baam" that was bugging me for the last 20 odd years (yes years). I asked loads of people with no luck until about 6 months ago when someone said "not sure but I think it's the Tar Babies but don't know the song "
I found it over the weekend

I had a small riff from a song stuck in my head for 10 years that I couldn't remember what it was. Very hard to transcribe but went dah dah dah,  dah dah dah,  dah de dah de dah,   dah dah dah.

Last week was listening to and buying some stuff from my yoof on itunes and it was Mission Drive by the Wonderstuff.  Stopped me going insane I think!

I have had a song stuck in my brain for 20 years but I fear it is likely to be by a lesser known 90's American nwonw / punk band. I seem to remember them being teenagers and the lyrics were along the lines of ''Got no personality, got no brains, you all talk sh*t your all the same'' If you get that one @Alnico I will buy you a Latte and cinnamon swirl!

  • I successfully emailed a radio show once, for a song title. Admittedly it was only a few hours after I heard it. I think I said "It was garage rock and had 'thee' in the refrain". Somebody did email me the correct info shortly after - Walking With Thee by Clinic. Marvellous.

There was one I liked on XFM at the very end of the 90s - probably in 1999. Sounded like Bush channelling Joshua-Tree era U2, and I think it might have been called "Shine". Unfortunately I got a bit confused and thought the chap on the radio said it was by The Montrose Avenue, who turned out to be bloody awful.

Ta but no; the one I remember was like a grungy shoegazey sort of thing. In fact I suspect the reason I thought it was called Shine is that that was probably the Montrose Avenue song that was on straight after it...

I knew the guys in After the fire .. the keyboard player (Memory Banks) was an ex-Cambridge uni graduate who designed a modular PA system which used fibreglass cabinets. I ended up buying some and some solid state amps.
