Having decided that I wanted a cheap electric to leave lying around my workshop I thought, having never owned, or even played one, I would go for a Tele.

So from GuitarGuitar I bought a used 2014 Affinity, by far the least expensive guitar I have bought since I was a teenager, and bloody hell, I like it so much it might not make it in to my workshop and stay at home!

And fair play to GuitarGuitar.  I chose it as it was described as not having a mark on it and the photos confirmed this, however it arrived with some damage on the front edge which as the box was fine I can only guess it was dropped before being packaged.

A couple of emails later, and as I told them I can’t be arsed waiting for a courier to collect and return it to them, they have offered a £40 partial refund, which suits me quite nicely.

I have now put a set of 10’s on it and set it up to my liking and I’m now looking at the guitars I have worth thousands and wondering what’s the point, it really does play and sound good.

oh, and was surprised to find full size pots under the control plate?

Come on @dbphoto you're not living up to your name. I can't see a single photo of the new guitar.

Hurrah for the humble Tele. I love em. The best all rounder guitar for me.

I've ummed and ahhed about selling my tele on here for a long time, but I'd only end up getting another, very solid and great sounding guitars.

Yours is a beaut, I think a black plate would look good on it too  ;)

That’s a ridiculous price for a guitar. It really does make you think sometimes that maybe we’ve been conditioned into thinking more expensive means better.

For my 40th recently my wife treated me to an early 90/91 PRS and it’s lovely but at the same time I bought a cheap musicman sub1 guitar from 2007 and I can’t put it down.

After the £40 refund for the damage on the top it has cost me £105

I spent more than that last night in a restaurant for God’s sake.

The neck is really nice, the frets are good and as a non Tele snob I couldn’t care less that it has a top loading bridge, six saddles, the body is only 40mm deep etc etc

Yep, nothing wrong with Affinity Teles - alder body, a surprisingly good bridge pickup. If you can get on with the narrow nut and thinnish neck they are great bang for the buck, and fun to mod.

This for sure. Slightly narrower nut width (an Affinity trait) and no through body stringing for the most part (probably only bothers the Tele purists), but great guitars.

Here's me playing my old one at a local jam last year...

I shouldn’t buy guitars after a bottle of wine, but I often do.

(I read your post and laughed, there was nothing wrong there)

    Good, I'm glad.
Context is sometimes lost in type.

I've never been able to fathom why but I can't see, or rather my brain can't process quick enough, silver frets on yellow maple. It somehow feels like it's made of treacle and my brain loses all coordination (That it had anyway).
Silver on dark wood, no problem I'm fine with that but something really turned me off maple and it seems to have become quite a subconscious thing now!

Still a great deal you got and it's really nice to see the affinity series with string through bodies, but I never disliked the top loader bridges either.

Yes, I'd leave the plate white, it does suit more.
