^^^ I'm not sure that they actually rescued western music, but there is an Essex band, and another in Eastbourne, called...
    The Beagles,
"Professional four piece band playing songs from the The Eagles and Beatles".

  • Love the analysis of ‘Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic’. Loved that song the first time I heard it and bought the single immediately. Amazing something that’s quite ‘difficult’ harmonically can sound so accessible. Sting may have become irritating later in his career - but his pop sensibility on that song is genius.

There is a lot of good "educational" stuff on the internet if you look for it.
If we are not ashamed to think it, we should not be ashamed to say it.

Another resource for deconstructing the theory being songs is the HookTheory website.

  • Wonderful thread, I went straight to the Steely Dan breakdown, but will look at all these. A fountain of knowledge here.

Oi! @Kebabkid you will definitely appreciate this :)

    Blink -182

One of the biggest hits of the late 90's by Blink 182.
Found the stems to this online, and I've mapped them all out into the various song sections in my DAW. There are some good ideas in here, some of which I've never noticed before.

  • Thanks for your posts @Freebird , and the Hook Theory link.

Any chance you could post a link to the stems ?

That is something I have yet to explore, good call, and an exciting next step for me to explore the whole recording process again (I used to be a dab hand with 2" tape and a razor blade!).  I am sure a few others on here would benefit from that too.  Glad you're enjoying the content in this thread  :)

  • Can't go wrong with a bit of Steely Dan @Bellycaster :)

@richardhomer makes a good point about harmonically difficult music having the ability to be accessible, and interesting.  Oh, and Sting being irritating too  ;)

I do wish that the internet had been around when I learnt to play the first time around, it is such a wonderful resource.  On the other hand there is something to be said for learning by ear, dropping the needle, and by grafting for every bit of knowledge and new discovery.  That teaches you to be more self sufficient IMO.  The danger of the TAB and YT generation is what seems to be an homogenisation of technique, approach and style, with less individualism and innovation.  YMMV.

However, given the choice I would take the vast library of the possible that the internet has opened us for us all.  I think channels like Rick's take an intelligent approach that opens as many doors for learning, progression, and individualism as a hungry and enquiring mind could hope for.

That is one downside of copyright being too strictly enforced  (IMO).

Although there is obviously advantage to be had by many parties with this sort of YT content, there is the obvious marketing upside to the rights holder of brand/band/song awareness, proliferation, knock on sales potential, up-selling of the whole catalogue, and performing rights revenue, etc.  I have no idea why the industry is so tight arsed !

Does anyone know what software program Beato is using to isolate parts of the track? For example, he often will isolate just the guitar or drums only like he has a mixing desk on his pc.
