For me there's three drive pedals that really stick in my mind, of loads I've tried they're the ones that stayed!

Subdecay Liquid Sunshine - for really low gain this is simply beautiful. I have the V1, the two drive setup still baffles me but it sounds stunning.

Amptweaker Tight Drive Pro - so, so versatile, just sounds great whatever I run it through, and acts as the 'heart' of my pedalboard with the 3 loops. Well thought out and executed pedals, not sure why the Tight Drive doesn't get more love.

Blackarts Toneworks Pharaoh Supreme - stunning fuzz. I have the regular Pharaoh too, both amazing pedals. I prefer the looks and simplicity of the regular Pharaoh but the Supreme has the mosfet clipping which is lovely - very dense and complex. It can get pretty fuzzy, but I really like the geranium clipping with lower gain and lower pre settings. If there was an overdrive set up like the Pharaoh with just geranium clipping, the tone at 9 o'clock, the high near 5 o'clock, a pre control that ranged from 8 to 11 o'clock and the same fuzz range it would be a revered overdrive. The Pharaoh is one of those pedals where everything at max (except the tone control) sounds amazing, but the lower gain stuff it can do is just as good.

For OCD users do you like the Toggle up or toggle down sounds the best? When mine was in regular use I always preferred the more Fendery sounds of toggle down.

    Toggle down and 18V power.

  • For me and for the extra LOL's it's still the Boss OD-1 and SD-2. A rarity for me but I managed a good few hours last night tweaking the drives. I've now got the OD-1 after the SD-2 so it's RYRA>SD-2>OD-1.
On the RYRA I bumped up the output, treble backed off and set the gain to 11 o'clock, I was getting some gloriously stacked overdriven/crunchy/lovely lead tones. It's probably the best I've heard my board to date, I'm not sure if it's the work of the RYRA but I'm really, really happy with this setup. Both the Boss OD-1 and SD-2 have been a revelation, they also both stack nicely without the help of the Klone, they are just so easy to dial in.
I don't miss my Zvex Double Rock at all, maybe the SHO section? but it was a real pain in the arse to set up during rehearsals, it seemed to have way too much output and it was just too sensitive, I felt I was constantly fighting with it. Anyone else have this with the Double Rock?

Little Green Wonder for mild to mid OD.  Rothwell Tornado for thick Marshally tones and beyond.

How do you have the SD-2 set up? Would be good to know, so I can try my RYRA > SD-2 also

No, but I do have a ZVex Fat Fuzz Factory that suffers from exactly the same problems; it's overly sensitive when dialling-in and it's mentally loud!

Still a lot of fun if you take it for what it is though...
Not much of the gear, even less idea.

No probs! @smudge_lad ; I'll send you some pictures of the settings when I get back from work. it may not be to your liking but I've been tweaking the lead/red channel for a nice thick lead tone it's for a song we are covering for a fast approaching gig, The green/crunch channel is set up roughly level 11, tone 10, drive 11 I think? it gets me a nice crunchy OD but when you kick in the RYRA with the above settings to my ears it sounds fantastic adds a bit of magic to it, it really stands out

    So many to choose from
The Thorpy Warthog is probably the best all round, stand alone dirt. But I love the Broadcast for having a pretty unique sound

On my board i actually have a Fredric Effects Accomplished Badger which drives my amp and does a damn fine job of it, although I also love the Golden Eagle Klone as well.

The Raygun FX Soda Drive is probably the best bang for buck dirt pedal I can think of with three modes and sounds fantastic whilst only costing £65

theres loads more but this is starting tonbasically turn into a list!

I’ve been flicking between the Liquid Sunshine and the Keeley Phat Mod for a few weeks.

For what hat I do the Keeley is better, it’s not as smooth or refined as the LS, but it has more lows and a punchier mid.

My main purpose is for boosting my already driven Budda, so I’m just looking for a bit “more”. Standalone into the clean the LS, is stupidly good though and the level of gain it can achieve is quite surprising.

I haven't found the drive pedal that is the sound in my head (although the Tight Rock is half way there).  Basically I want an Fender Super Champ on the verge of meltdown, with harmonics leaping off the fingerboard like it was a hot plate.  Any suggestions would be welcome.
Isn’t that what a King of Tone is meant to be? Still needs the volume to work though
It gets close but Mesa Boogie's Throttle Box gets much closer - good saturations in the mids so harmonics leap out.

For me its not a pedal... It's the Groove tubes trio pre-amp. 3x valve channels with independent control.  Can set the two overdriven channels quite mild (mean & scream channels). Lovely lovely kit ;)

Up until two weeks ago it was the Amptweaker Fat Metal...

It has now been surpassed by the VHD Distortion from S&K pedals - based heavily on the old Ampeg VH140C amps. It's just absolutely killer. Paired with my Pharaoh it's just nnnnnnnggghhhh. Just wish it had a different orientation in the footprint.

One of my all time faves is the Tone Freak Abunai 2, although I don’t own one currently.

I think they’re TS derived but with more control and different clipping modes.

Just picked up a Dinasaural Tube Bender. Not in production anymore but wow it's lovely. Haven't used in in anger yet but I see this maybe dislodging my Strymon Sunset off my board in the not too distant future

I would probably go for Honey Bee and Timmy, particularly both together as they sound great. Although I don't own either at the minute...

I recently bought this though, and for nice sustaining lead tones it is very very hard to beat. And the clean boost is awesome too. Quite a bit like an Ethos overall, but for my taste I think this might have the edge, although only just getting to grips with it. And as you can see there is some tweaking available. Not always a good thing.........
