Playing with plectrum and fingers at the same time?

Is there a name for this way of playing? Any pointers on how to learn it?

    Hybrid picking.
Start bringing in the middle and ring when crossing strings.
It will become second nature after a while.

Learn a few country guitar licks. Zakk Wylde and Eric Johnson got me started, and I do it subconsciously now, mostly to get a different attack sound and tone from the strings.

Most examples of hybrid picking are in country guitar but it also has its place in other styles. Here is a You Tube vid showing it used in rock playing where the use of the fingers can assist in damping notes so that they play clean.

How can you have a middle finger when you only have four fingers...

I have my own fudged version for picking out bass notes while play high strings, plectrum between thumb and index and using middle and mainly ring finger, useful for stuff like intro to under the bridge and the like.

I switched to hybrid picking a couple of years ago and it's such an obvious way to play that I think it should be taught from the start. There's things you can do with hybrid picking easily that are much harder with just a pick

I sort of do hybrid picking some of the time, I think this is from learning Arlen Roth stuff who saw it as the natural way to play almost anything.
The over riding habit I have from it is how I play octaves which is plectrum and a finger ( I'm going to say ring finger but without doing it I'm not actually sure). Not very Jimi or Wes but you get a clearer ring to octaves than with a plectrum alone.
