    Yep!

There was a nice cherry one at NAMM, but that blonde one looks amazing.

Nice to see Collings getting onboard the 330-type thing.

  • I love Collings, the 360 LT M is one of my dream guitars.

  • Beautiful!

I had the pleasure of playing a ‘60 330 for a short while and it still stands out as my single favourite guitar I’ve tried. Hopefully Collings have captured their vibe as usual, because I would very much like this:

  • Collings also know how to do ageing.... I had an aged i35lc and the ageing was perfect... these do look tasty

They look appetizing - small market and at 5K then that market has shrunk further - Yet Collings only make around 400 electrics a year so no mass market for them anyway - quality not quantity for them

Yes they do a good job on their 'aging' - more subtle and effective

They look lovely. Prefer the plaintop of the blonde but the subtle flame looks nice too.
Interesting that they're not following the more common ES-330/Casino "short" neck join. Given how often I've read that the ES-330L (same neck join as the 335, so better upper fret access) changes the tone for the worse, it'll be interesting if people think these sound similar to an ES-330/Casino, the ES-330L or have their own thing going on. I'd guess at the latter but the 330 comparison is inevitable.

I have a 330L and it does sound different to the short neck version, but, and this is the salient point, it sounds fantastic. The more forward bridge position gives it a slightly brighter voice and this is something that I actually like, as it sits in a mix beautifully. It plays beautifully as well. I have played a short neck version with a Bigsby which  did not sound anywhere near as nice. Horses for courses I guess.

.....and when they reach the 'used market' folks still ask top dollar. Marvellous workmanship, too rich for my payscale sadly.

As much as I look at it, and want it, I know from previous experience of owning a number of Collings electrics that I will almost certainly prefer the tone and general vibe of the Gibson equivalent. And the es330 re-issues, also had one of them, are mighty fine guitars.

The Collings always feel like they will be great in about 50 years time when the stiffness and sharp edges have been dulled somewhat with age.

They are are an amazing achievement though, in terms of workmanship and consistency. I have owned 8 Collings guitars in the past, and played a ton more in shops, and I am still yet to find a single issue on any. Not even the smallest hint of something out of line, or intonation not quite there, nothing. To be able to do that with wood is pretty remarkable.

I should have probably said that it sounds different, rather than worse, although I have heard people saying they don't like the sound as much as the "short neck join" ES-330. I'm guessing that they're after the traditional 330 sound though, which might explain it.

Certainly a brighter 330 is something that would appeal to me. What's odd is that the few I've played - along with a few Casinos - have varied massively in this respect. Some just seem inherently brighter/janglier than others and I've no idea why. I love the way the 330/Casino does that neck pickup hollowbody sound - I'm a Grant Green fan! However, I also like it's power-pop vibe (Beatles, Weller, Teenage Fanclub etc.) and that's where some have disappointed me in being a bit dark sounding.

Lovely sound in the demo above but it was very much the jazzy side of things. Would have liked to hear the bridge and both pickups together sounds, maybe with a hint of amp breakup.

EDIT: I should have done a bit more exploring. This sounds pretty damn funky and plenty bright enough!!!

This is the funny thing about guitars. You settle upon what your idea of a great guitar only to be disappointed and then you find something you didn't expect and it is wonderful. I bought a SoCo with Powertrons. It had a lovely sound and looked fantastic, but I could not get comfortable with it. I took it back. I have now ended up with a 98 Gibson 335 custom shop 1963 block neck and I love it. It belonged to a friend of mine and I jokingly said that he ought to sell it to me. He rang me back the next day and a deal was done. The irony was that my mate had just bought a Collings Les Paul-alike.

The 330 does do that funky jazz thing for me. For me it works best on the clean side of breakup. Again it belonged to the same friend and yes he sold it to me. I bonded with over a number sessions play the 330. I used to have a 1959 blonde dot 330 in the 80's. Boy do I regret selling that. Vintage and rare told me it could be worth over £10,000 in good nick. Well I guess we all have stories of the one that got away.

Unless someone’s privately special ordered one already I’ve only seen one land so far on these shores, at Coda.
