Another Non Guitar woodworking query for those good with wood

My long suffering wife had some plants she was potting on sat in a plastic tray on top of an oak table (danish oil finish) in the conservsatory. Unbeknown to her the plastic tray had a couple of holes in the base and the table has suffered a bit of damage. I've given it a light rubbing down with some wire wool and it's looking better than it did. Should I carry on with this or is there a better technique?

There's a bit where the wood has raised. I was thinking of running a bit of (super?) glue in and clamping it up. Thoughts?

Is that large grey patch the damage from the water?

Yes it is. She was in floods of tears. I've seen the miracles performed on this site so I was OK about it.

I would try wood bleach, but I think whatever you do, it will need to be on the whole top.

Try an iron on the damaged area before clamping flat, then run thin superglue in once cooled.

If all all else fails, paint the top a funky colour

If that’s a solid oak top can it be sanded down to removed a uniformed depth from the entire top of the table? Maybe that would remove most of the wood that is now raised?

@wezv thanks. Straight iron or on steam setting?
@lonestar it is a solid top so i did consider removing a bit off the whole top. I think the top is screwed on so absolute worst case I think I can swap it round front to back and hide the damaged bit under a big model train we have on the other side. I'd rather fix it as best I can though.

I was thinking it was veneer from the raised section, if it’s not the iron won’t do owt.

but if it’s solid you can just take off a bit more... I would use a cabinet scraper rather than sanding
