Currently DBbDFCA. I call it the Ranaldo tuning, cause I stole it from him. Every time I pick up a guitar in this tuning decent things happen. Which is good.

I've written my best acoustic piece in BEBEBE.
The two I've written most with are old classic DADGAD and DGDGBD

I shall see what I think of DBbDFCA, haven't tried that.

The top E gets tuned up to A? Sounds interesting enough to try just so see what happens.

I like CGCFGC which is like a kinda sus chord open. Very nice using the open strings.

I've got two electrics permanently tuned a la Devin now, CGCGCE and GCGCGCE

I don't always keep the final song in that tuning but I find it great inspiration when writing.

Despite how limited it is, one of my favourites is the tuning Robbie Basho uses on Venus in Cancer - DF#DF#AD

I have been using CADFAD a lot lately, and also EACEAC.

The only tuning I use other than standard and occasionally Drop D is EBEEBE, mostly (but not only) for slide.

It has the advantage that by tuning two strings up a tone and one down a minor third, the overall tension remains almost the same, so it's possible to do it on a floating-trem guitar without having to retune the other strings too much.

"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski

    "Just because I don't care, doesn't mean I don't understand." - Homer Simpson

Ie. DADGAD tuned down a tone, or am I missing something?

Sometimes I leave the top string as a D, but technically yes.

I was sent this the other day by a friend as I love Joni's tunings I have played with the work  done on her website but this guy gives a nice example of the songs basic  fingering.  Sure some of the better theorists her can explain where she was going with all of this but the tunings seem to set the tonality of the songs so well.

    Here's a tip from me:
It's best to dedicate a guitar to a specific tuning, and buy string gauges that keep the tension optimal
But, for temporary use, think about the overall tension:

So when I change a normal string set to DADGAD, I increase the tension up to D# to D#

Stuart Ryan introduced me to the wonderful open Gm tuning DGDGBbD via his excellent arrangement of the Appalachian/Scottish piece Black is the Colour, since found out John Renbourn also really like this tuning.

If you can read this then my time machine works.

My fav is EADGAD. Most of the tunes I've written on acoustic have used this tuning.

Ry Cooder: What's that strange tuning you're using?

    Eric Clapton: EADGBE

Ry Cooder: Nah, don't know it.

I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

I have a guitar tuned to B-E-B-E-Ab-B. Open G but down 1.5 tones. I used a 7-string set of power slinkies and left off the top 11. I'm not sure how useful it is compared to normal open G or even standard tuning but it's good fun.

Stone me, I haven't mastered standard tuning yet!
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself

    DADGBE
CGDGBE - I call this one the Jeff Kollman tuning because he was the first guy I heard explain it.

This is great and it seems to be tuned with the G up to A and the B up to C#
