They seem to be a law unto themselves.

I'd have though being further from the stage is a good thing in her case. France maybe?

Recent prices paid for me have been Stones £85, Nick Mason £50, Kate Bush tribute £15

I saw Bonamassa in Shepards Bush once for £60, it was so packed I just about got in the door and could only see the bass players arm occasionally and the brass players head

I could certainly hear Joe's guitar though ..it was stupidly louder than everything else

Paid £50 for Gregory Porter at the Royal Albert Hall, which I didn't think was too bad...bearing in mind the artist and the brilliant venue.

RE: Joe's loud guitars, a mate went to see Nile Rodgers a couple years ago & said the same thing.
When I saw Nile I complained his guitar was too low in the mix. Beauty in the ear of the beholder maybe.

Regarding JoBo it's his living and if he can sell tickets for £80 rather than £40 each it's reasonably hard to blame him especially if at a lower price they'd go to resellers and they'd make the profit and not his organisation.

I wouldn't pay it ( I have seen him a couple of times before) but it looks like other people will.

When I went to see Extreme's anniversary Pornograffiti show, we paid £110 for the tickets.

However, those were the VIP tickets including meeting the band. I didn't object to that price at all; I think standard tickets were about £20-25.

It does amuse me when I see people moaning about ticket prices all over social media (not meaning this thread). It never seems to occur to them that, if they looked around a bit for new music, they could get in to see some phenomenal unsigned bands that are right up their alley for a fiver.

Looking at that photo @Whitecat posted, I'm guessing that JB needs to charge those ticket prices just to pay his insurance bill.

You sod.  I hope you got Nuno to sign your guitar at least.

Can’t remember what the regular tickets were, but they were certainly less than £40, for a band which filled stadiums in their heyday. And the entire audience (in Manchester anyway) was composed of people who loved the band and were thoroughly enjoying themselves.  It was a great gig.

Yep, I did. In fact, he signed the headstock...which isn't unusual, because he'll sign anything that sits in front of him for more than 30 second D However, the whole band (including Nuno) also signed the backplate.

For what it's worth, that gig was basically a religious experience. Never heard any live band sound so good.

Its just about putting people in to a hostage situation to make the most money.

If my daughter was really in to say... Adele, I'd look and see that a ticket was £60 and id think "yeah, we can about afford that" and id tell her that id try to get tickets.
If someone swiped them all up and charged £180 then they know people won't want to disappoint their kids.
If the original price was £180 I'd immediately tell my daughter no sorry, it's too much, we'll get the blu ray and you can have your friends round.

Me and my wife really wanted to go see King Crimson, but tickets were £100 or so. Straight away we said no, that's too much.
If tickets were £50 then we can afford that, so I set myself the expectation that we're going to get to see one of our favourite bands (if I remember to go online in time).
What I don't expect is that some twats with a massive bank balance come and swipe the whole lot in the opening seconds and then try to sell them to us at £150.
What the fuck? How is that okay?

I don't even blame them. They've seen an opportunity to make a lot of money and they have the means to do so. Of course they're going to do it if no one is stopping them. There should be people stopping it however as it's unfair.
Nothing wrong with having a reselling site where people can try make a bit of money after the official sites run out of tickets, but when the official sites are running out of tickets in seconds and then they're immediately on another site for 3 times the price? No.

  • I used to be on the road 2-3 times a week travelling to watch bands, lived and breathed it and couldn’t get enough of it

Can now count on one hand how many gigs I’ve been to in the past 10 years.

I got sick of all the greed involved in it from greedy promotors, £30 for a fucking t-shirt that’s coat them £2-3 to make.  Though I understand there’s no money in albums anymore but most of the big acts have made their money and then some so they’re clearly not doing it for the love of the music anymore

Biggest disappointment was the GNR reunion which I believe is a complete sell out in their part. Shit tickets were expensive enough but towards £250 for an up front seat, get fucked.

at a certain level (big names) it's all just a horrendous ego trip, a neon panto fit for the west end, all happily underwritten by punters willing to buy into & perpetuate it. hence the £100s.

but i know a few shoestring indie bands (here & in EU) who literally depend on ticket take to survive.
they have bandcamps & merch & they do their absolute best to get modest (not stupid) profit-generating product out to the loyal fanbase. but it's never anywhere near enough even to cover the cost of making (studio & gear & travel).
their youtubes get 10k plays each but they barely 'sell' 500 bandcamp downloads. it's insane.

so maybe £20-£30 to see them once or twice a year? to feel you are helping keep the wheels on their little bus (the one that brings you so much joy) does not seem extortion to me.

& maybe i'm just a small-time scene person, but i like that thing where you are queuing at the bar while the support band does their thing & realise the person queuing next to you is a member of the band you have come to see. you can ask about their pedal board, or what is coming next.

far more fun & intimate than standing at the far end of a football field, freezing your tits off & waving your lighter at a video screen for £100. small is beautiful.

I tend to avoid Stadium shows because they are too expensive and not as much fun as smaller shows. I only go when the artist is one I really want to see.

I got Jack White tickets for £59 + approx £9 in fees and that is close to the upper limit on what I will spend.

I've seen some great shows recently at small venues for under £30 a ticket.

Where you getting those prices from? I paid £130 for a golden circle ticket for London. Cheap tickets were £65.

I wouldn't pay that much myself, but if Joe Bonamassa's gigs are sold out (and they usually are), then the tickets aren't overpriced are they?

The main issue is that the tickets aren't bought by people who are going to attend the concert. They are bought by people whose only intention is to make a profit on the resale.

I remember Margo Price put a video on her Instagram Story where she spoke to some people selling tickets outside her concert in LA, and they didn't know who she was.

My first Rush gig, leaning against the very front of the stage was £6 (NEC)

My last Rush gig, half way back on the floor was £65 (The O2)

    Prices increase

    Last few gigs for us...

    Black stone cherry £20
    Noel Gallagher £40
    Bryan Adams £80
    Feeder £25

JoBo? I do like him as a player and a person (from what I’ve seen). But I couldn’t afford the money to see him given how little actual content of his I know.

Lets hope so, because I usually am very happy to pay the ticket price to see the band - having to see it through some dickheads phone screen because they've got it held up above their head the entire concert making a crap film makes me seethe! I wish all band would do ban phones/cameras!

Yes, he is using the Yondr pouches, I saw his show at the smaller venue a couple of months ago and he had it there as well. The system was quite smooth and was well though out.

Your phone gets locked in a fabric pouch when you walk in and you keep it with you, if you need to use your phone during the show you can go outside and get it unlocked.

Yondr Pouches (& maybe licensed generic for schools & places with tight budgets) should be everywhere. it's another thread but too many people use their phones like soothers & it's infantilising. i sincerely believe it stunts their mental & emotional development. kids espesh.

if you are in the world (you are in the world!) then direct engagement with your immediate environment (rather than one degree removed, via a phone) is a valuable experience. perhaps even a moral obligation. ie, people are likely to care less about the state of their environment (physical, personal, political) if they never feel fully involved in it.

I've seen JoBo a couple of times and wouldn't go again.  Firstly I agree his ticket prices are a mickey-take, to be polite.  Secondly, as good as he is, how many 10 minute guitar solos do you need in one show?

Last time I saw him was at Newark Castle a couple of years ago.  Unbeknownst to me he had Joanne Shaw Taylor as the support act - to be honest I enjoyed her set much more than JoBos.

I don't go to many big arena gigs these days, but I always find the smaller intimate gigs much more enjoyable (and affordable).
