I have a dilemma with no of guitars too. I  agree that it looks a bit excessive for most players to have lots of guitars on stage. However I use different tunings, so it's either 4 guitars or everyone has to wait while I retune.
Are any of them simple lowered tunings? If so the Digitech Drop can solve that problem - the guitarist in my band used one to replace his down-tuned guitar, which meant he only needed two.

If not then taking four may be the only sensible solution if it's not something easy like drop D.

Not simple. One guitar does Standard and EADGCE. One does DADAAD and DGDGAD. One does DBbDFCA. So 3 and a backup - not very punk I'm afraid...

Though I own rather more, the only pedals I really use are a Boss Blues Driver and an MXR Phase 90. Others that are used occasionally include a Morley Wah and an MXR Carbon Copy.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

I don't understand why people with limited pedal space have a tuner on the board.
I find them slightly impractical compared to a simple SNARK which is just so easy to use.

I haven't used my conventional pedal board for a while because nowadays I'm using my Vox Tonelab SE.  But these are the pedals I have on it:

From left to right : Boss GE-7 EQ, Marshall Echohead EH1, Marshall Regenerator RG1, Behringer To800 Vintage Tube Overdrive ('tubescreamer'), Marshall Guvn'r II Plus, Boss CS3 Compression Sustainer, Boss Tu12H tuner.

I loved the GE-7 eq, but found it a bit noisy

pedalmods.com can fix that for not too stupid money either.  Basically a major upgrade of the noisy components.*
Or they could, not sure if they're still a going concern.

    * Is how they describe it and it sounds plausible.  I am sooo not an expert!  End result is so much quieter though.

Very simple for me - Black country customs TI boost, Ts9 mini, Digitech tuner, wah, cheap chorus  and an eq pedal for solo boost.

But i want a delay and reverb, and my board is full. So i'm considering getting a Helix HX so i can just keep the TI boost and wah on the board and lose everything else.

Agreed. I use mine as a mute not a tuner (hence I can put it after the whammy!)

I lugged this to a rehearsal over the weekend (400 mile round trip) and used a whopping 4 pedals...

Out of those 4 pedals, one was the always on Decimator and another was the TU-3.

Maybe it's time for a cull?!

My dudes are my dudes...I've been playing with those guys since I bought my first guitar (I'm nearly 38) and it's not like we jam every Thursday.

Though, I have to admit, I've recently been thinking of venturing out in to the local scene a bit more...it's only taken me 12 years!

Or have a minimalist board or get a Hellx HX for messing about ?

I use all of my pedals... well, pedal actually. I've just got a wah now, since I'm not gigging any more so I've got rid of all my pedals. I use a couple of software fx too, does that count? :)
Too much gain... is just about enough \m/

I had an always on booster type arrangement going on until last rehearsal when I realised it was making that evening's amp sound all middle'y and boxy. I definitely feel a pedal board re-shuffle coming on.

I'm a pedals minimalist, don't own many and use fewer.  Last few gigs I've used a Flyrig 5 for a boost, a couple of levels of dirt and delay; or a Lovepedal Amp 11 and Flashback delay to do the same job.  I own a Line 6 M9 but haven't been using it because I prefer other dirt sounds and it seems overkill for modulation considering how little I use it.  I own a couple of old Boss pedals (chorus and distortion) and a BB Preamp.  The BB is great but I tend to use the Amp 11 if I want a standalone dirt pedal because it has the boost.

All the same I'm very tempted by the HX Effects and will probably buy one.  The obvious downside of hardly using pedals is that you don't develop skills at using them, and I do think that's something I'd like to be better at.  I've also recently joined a jazz/fusion band that would give me more scope to use a variety of sounds than other stuff I've been doing.

The appeal with the HX is that hopefully the dirt sounds are good enough and I can bring one device for everything, I really like the idea of presets and I can store different settings for different bands.

I used all of the above (not at the same time ...) at last night's rehearsal.  (Actually I've swapped out the BlackBox for a Ramble FX Marvel Drive).
