I think the only album I've got so far that was actually released this year is The Spook School - Could It Be Different?, so it will have to be that.

"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski

    "Just because I don't care, doesn't mean I don't understand." - Homer Simpson

The newly-discovered live sessions featuring John Coltrane. Released just now - although it was admittedly recorded in 1963.

Actually, I’m just being grumpy and old and unreasonable because not only have I not yet heard the “new” Coltrane album, but I also haven’t yet listened to *any* album released in 2018 :-).

Metacritic is a useful resource for what is new.

Spotify's "Discover Weekly" has brought so much of it my way.
It basically provides the same function as the late John Peel but without making you listen to random ensembles of Tajikistani tuba players -- and of course it doesn't play the songs at the wrong speed.  But other than that it's the same.

Spotify for me too, but more by exploring the "related artists" links which take you to bands in roughly the same genre who you might otherwise never have heard of.

I'm not really a lover of the new music business, it meant more in the days when it took some work to find out about and track down an album, and there was a risk element that after shelling out for it you might not even like it!  But in some ways streaming is a leveller - I'm now just as likely to encounter a self-produced album on some tiny indie label as I am to find a major release by a "name" band.

There a new "recently unearthed" recording session (singular, for a whole album's worth)  from John Coltrane, it's released end of this month.  I heard a track on Jazz FM - it sounded bloody fantastic !
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

I would say this of course, but Jack White's Boarding House Reach is the only thing I've bought new this year and I love it
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me
