Schaller Treble-Bass Boost

Grabbed this on eBay today thinking it looked old and cool. Any idea what it is?

A cursory Google suggests there was a version with a big treadle pedal, but this one is just a simple box.

    So this turned up and I tried it out. Seems like it needs a bit of TLC as sometimes the output drops very low. When working properly I quite like it. There's a five-position tone switch and an output level dial. With the level all the way up you get a small but useful boost compared to the clean signal, I can't imagine ever wanting to not use it all the way up. The two bass positions on the tone switch aren't really useful, they sound like rolling the tone control on the guitar all the way down, but the other three are pretty cool. My favourite is the centre position which seems to add treble and bass and scoop out some mid-range mud. Very useful for taming the boxy quality of small amps.
