Nice, what's the little metal can things?  Transistors? And what do the switchable caps do? (so many questions! :)

2N222A transistors. It's a DPDT on/off/on switch that switches in an extra cap for more bass.

    It's a Zendrive clone.

I didn't but a quick google solved it.  :) Very clever!  Looks great too.  Is that one a clear decal or did you just match the enclosure colour really well?

It was sheer luck that the decal colour I chose matched almost exactly the pedal's colour.

Tell you what Steve, the Zendrive is a really great overdrive, sounds the best I've heard. Try one - http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/2012/01/hermida-zendrive.html You can get an OPA2604 from Bitsbox.

    @Philtre ;
you must do nothing but make pedals!  I do one or two a year :)  My Keeley 4-knob compressor was completed a couple of months ago and I still haven't labelled the outside!  Ordered some Envirotex though, and I was playing around with graphics based on the Monty Python foot.

@aord43 Well, I've made about 23 since January, so there is time to eat and sleep at the weekends. ;-)

How does the Keeley sound? I keep meaning to do one of those. The foot is a good idea, must steal that!

I've skimmed the thread for an answer to this but it seems you guys are mostly starting with a painted/powder coated enclosure. Coz I've not got drilling gear, I use fuzzdog's pre-drilled enclosures, and I want to get a decent solid colour on one or two enclosures in a short a timeframe as possible (like a single afternoon of spraying). I'm thinking

    • sand off oxide from the bare aluminium
    • one or two coats of primer  - what's the best/fastest drying spray can brand/type for this?
    • few coats of colour
    • Then, I'm gonna go for a zvex style hand-painted look. I'm guessing model paint is fine for this but happy to be corrected.
    • clear coat (again, not sure what sort to buy)
We have a cass art shop in brum where I can ask advice from the staff but i'm not confident they'd definitely have everything in stock.

Can you not buy powder coated enclosures from fuzzdog as part of the kit if you pay extra?

I've been using the Halfords etch primer for aluminium enclosures. A pedal I built for a friend which was sprayed has done several world tours and still looks surprisingly good.

Just give it a decent rub down with wet'n'dry and degrease thoroughly.

Ah I’ve seen them listed on the site but have only ever bought pcbs so didn’t know they’d been out of stock.

I had bad experience using Rustoleum paint, it was like treacle and took ages to dry. If I were to use paint again I think I would use Halfords car paint and primer.

My experiences with Rustoleum have not been good either.
