Is that because the bridge pickup isn't mounted properly?  For me, mounting it in the bridge is a vital part of the Tele sound.
I certainly think it's an important factor.

That must have been the one at Strung Out guitars then. Wondered why it was there so long, I blamed it on the worlds worst website with no SEO.
Their website (and especially photography) is shite, yes - I've moaned about it over and over but never got anywhere :). That's not the only reason though - loads of people looked at it in the shop over the years, but no-one liked it.

Very unusual to get an Anderson like that though.
Every Anderson of any description I've played has been similar, although not as bad as that one. I just don't get them at all. Perfectly made, and perfectly dull.

Having the most offensively bland headstock on any guitar probably doesn't help either.

Have a word with Dave Dearnaley. He specialises in Tele's and Strats and he actually makes them from raw wood himself.

He also paints them and everything is done In-House. No farming out.

Here is a Tele he made me to match my 83 Tokai Strat.

    And a Strat he made...

    Matching necks...

He's just finished me another Tele.  Single bound in Seafoam Green with Braz fingerboard. I collect it next weekend.

    All within your budget.

    Of course I am biased!!!!!

But MJT didn’t exist back then, nor did fender custom shop. And everyone is right... £2500+ for an aged guitar? Really? The reason these guitars cost so much is due to overheads. I am one person, as you are @rexter and you’re probably taking your wage the same as any other joe bloggs out there. These larger companies have a lot of costs to cover. You can spec a UK built Strat or tele for under £1500 easily and you’ll probably get a lovely tweed case included not to mention top quality components.

I think we should pat ourselves on the back more than we currently do.
I disagree. I think £1500 buys you a Nash type relic with little attention to detail where as £2500 plus buys you an absolute masterpiece like those done buy the likes of Carson Hess. You can't compare the two really, not if you the sort of buyer with an eye for detail.

I was meaning fender Relics at £2500+. The nash guitars I have seen in person aren’t great either tbh. And £1500 wouldn’t do it either... £2000 from what I saw. I don’t think I did too badly with this one tbf...

The problem I have with most Teles is the control layout.  The pickup switch is too close to the volume control. Ideally the volume would be a bit closer as well.  Steve Cropper has it about right.

Edit: Tried to post a link to picture of the Steve Cropper Sig Peavey and failed.  Would want traditional single coil pickups but a control layout like that.  I have thought about going to someone like Eternal and getting a custom build for that reason, as it's very hard to find a Tele with a traditional bridge and pickups that doesn't have the traditional control plate.

The worst thing is when people like Anderson mess up the recipe (like the one above) they still keep the control plate.

On the Steve Croper sig guitar, what does the little toggle switch (at the end) do?

Rutters have the cure with their 3/8ths over plate, I refit pretty much all my Tele's with these and their other hardware. Marc makes the best, period.

I’m not sure how Nash get so many buyers - the square edges on their fretboards totally defeat the point of relics imo. Absolutely horrible

But MJTs stuff is up there with all the Fender CS guitars I’ve played.

As for Teles, @crunchman , look at the Musikding control plate. They do a custom one with the volume pot moves a smidge away from the switch. Makes a huge difference and I wouldn’t have a Tele with a regular plate now. Fender should make it a standard part on all their modern Teles

I may have remembered wrong - looks like it’s rockinger not musikding, but anyways...

I liked this Palir T-Style (Apple Tree) with Porter Custom Tele Pickups the first time I heard it in this Brett Kingman demo

This is is my tele build. Rutters saddles and control layout. Met body and musikraft neck.

best tele I have ever played, ageing beautifully! Get so many comments on the playability and sound and looks if it. It feels like an old friend :) classic saying.

i feel if the neck and body are tight fitting, good quality woods and neck has to be the best you can afford then you get a good guitar.

Don't know.  I'm quite happy with standard pickups and switching.  It's the control layout that I don't like on a conventional Tele.  If you lose the little toggle, thta Steve Cropper looks like good positioning for the volume, tone and selector switch.
