I saw Toyah back in the 80s.

Phil is a great bass player.

    Cmi7 - Bb11 - AbMa7 - G7#5b9

or change the Bb to Bb13 and the Ab to Ab6/9...

    Variations on an old chestnut!

    Em - F#7 - Bm
    C/E - F#7- Bm

(bizarre discussion about French and Neapolitan sixths at college many years ago - quite easy to voice with open E string and opens some nice melodies without (imo) being jazzy.

Have a go on the chord progression for a design for life by the manics, its kept me occupied for the past hour, its a lovely progression imho
It's a great one to play. Sounds trickier than it is.

Yep - though the first one isn’t a French of course, it’s just a iv-V-i. French 6th would be G7 (well, G aug 6) with an aug 4 also added, like 343463 or something.

Me being unclear :) the first one is just the vanilla progression and the second is the Neapolitanv”substitute”.
I liked the way that cycling between  it gave a pull

Cool, yes the Neapolitan is the loveliest of all the 6ths - 100% Vivaldi :)

The chord progression for the song Little Person by Jon Brion always caught my ear.

    AbM7 - Ebm7 - D7#5 - DbM7 - Dbm7 - Dbm6

    The chorus is:

    Fm7 - C7#5/E - Ab/Eb - Dm7b5 - DbM7 - Dbm7 - Dbm6

I'm not sure what the theory behind it is, in terms of I-ii etc, but it has some cool descending bass movement.

  • Would that be I-V-vi-IV? Or is the 6 definitely major here?

    It's minor, e.g. C - G - Am - F
If we are not ashamed to think it, we should not be ashamed to say it.

Excellent. I played it and the VI sounded off. I also think I reinvented a Journey song ;)

For "emotive" chord prog, try Children's Crusade by Sting, eg 0:30
