Can't find link for G.I.R.L to upload 10 IR's at once but it's avail on files section of gsp1101 group on Facebook and I'll dropbox it when I can
Don't get me wrong it won't be all things for all guitarists (i tried a whole host of line6 stuff and they just don't suit my ears but then some love L6 stuff (i guess diff ears are sensitive to different aspects of sound)) but at price point there isn't much similar with such good performance that seems capable of clean, early breakup, crouch, hotroded and metal sounds. It doesn't stack distortions as in same block as each other and can have one from up to 6 blocks at same time. Solo boost annoys me as really need to set it for each preset whether it comes from a distortion stomp or adding a preset volume boost to one of buttons or so on.
So biggest downsides are non stackable distortion pedals and there isn't just a global boost for solo.
I have a cunning plan to use a volume pedal with a varible setting for minimum plugged into exp 1/4" on control 2 to solve that.
Anybody else have this problem? Not sure if it's a gsp problem or a computer one

Always worth asking this on the gsp1101 user group on Facebook as loads of people who use it regularly and some very knowledgeable users on there.

So, got my GSP1101 yesterday and I've played around a little bit. When I first plugged it in it sounded really muffled but then I discovered the output had been set to 'front of amp' and I was running it into a power amp...fixing that setting sorted the problem.
It's interesting...it sounds really good. I don't have a Helix any more but it feels like a similar amount better than my Pod HD500. There's a huge trade-off in flexibility...you can't change the order of effects and can only have one effect in each block - so, you can only have 1 distortion pedal at a time, for example. This just wouldn't work for a lot of people who want multiple amps, stacked drive pedals, multiple delays and complex routing in their patches. For me, I actually see it as a bonus...I don't want lots of options - I just want the basics and for it to sound good. Which is what this does, for a couple of hundred quid.
My only niggle is the form factor really. It's 2 things to organise (rack unit and controller), rather than a single floorboard like the Helix or the Pod. I would probably use it into my valve amp or with a 44 Magnum so I don't think it makes sense to get a rack case but it just feels a bit odd having a rack unit sitting on my amp. I need some kind of nifty solution for that!
So I'm still a bit unsure whether to keep the Pod or the GSP1101...the quality of sound of the GSP is loads better than the Pod. But I will probably mostly end up using 4CM anyway and the pod does that pretty well and is a single thing to carry and set up. I'll play a bit more with it today.
Once you start playing and get sounds you want dialled in I imagine you'll find sound (esspecially if you go direct recording or direct to desk at any point) possibly feels a bit less synthetic than helix (but only a touch and i reckon some ears are sensative to whatever part of sound makes it feel like that) though it will likely come down to some models sound better/worse depending on model so each will have their wins. And when you get 4 cable so can switch between internal preamps with efx round it and internal preamps... Digitech brown sound amp model can also be good for a Marshall sound. Gsp also doesn't seem to suffer getting lost in mix even on models which is good.
Make sure its updated to c63 firmware (even tuner is so good you won't need external). I'd probs run a full system reset on it to makes sure not some funny settings been changed. if going 4 cable set loop to preamp, set 1/4" to power amp with no cab modelling, Set xlr to modelled, PA output (and set LPF on for xlr). There is a +4 and -10 db on back for loop so if amps loop is a newer +4db select +4 to reduce volume at loop return. May not make a difference as not sure if fixed by c63 but try moving compressor to after loop (even switched off set to zero) it should improve sound quality. Xedit can be handy for setting up prests and make it dead easy but if you tweak live via preamp controls or turn a stomp off then store button will let you re-save
Got a few plans that i am trying to decide between at moment. I have my 4u with gsp and trio preamp in it. But want to make something flexible and not too heavy for a grab and go jam, practise, light option. At moment thoughts are fit a gsp into a second hand combo, padded 2u with a 1u power amp (like a palmer or marshall) and a 1x12 cab.
You can even build in some really clever stuff... Nux pms2 would allow you to have presets switch amp channel or amps reverb on/off or set amps boost. A midi loop controller in front and you could add some fave distortion pedals in front of system and the preset or a stomp button can be set to turn them on/off. And still only need control 2 in front of you.
Sure you'll enjoy it once you get going and find sound quality right up at high end of tree. Took me a few goes to really dial in some better sounds.
I have a gator padded bag that fits control 2 like a glove (will measure and take pics later) as its really smart.
If you amp has a nice clean channel you'll find some amp models come alive even more fed through the clean as well.
Are there perhaps smaller controllers that would allow say having four basic tone presets, and to switch one effect per preset on and off with a switch? Would that work?

but if you found a simple 4 or 5 button compact midi board you can very easily make that a stomp controller. Think it even mentions that in c63 document. Will check and link
Again - less flexibility than something like the Helix where you can assign anything to anything...but for me, the layout is spot on anyway so I wouldn't need to make any changes.
