And actually if you listen to either of Jerry's solo records you realise just how much of the AiC sound is down to him
Exactly. He just doesn't act 'the frontman' but he is a huge part of why AIC are how they are.

Couldn't agree more. The guitar sound plus vocal harmonies are so distinctive for AIC and that's all down to Cantrell

Saw them at the Brixton Academy in the early 90s. Best gig of my life.
BA was easy one of my fave venues in the 90s.. seen so many great bands there inc AiC 1993 which was ace but not as good as Soundgarden 94 with Tad supporting and Chris doing a long acoustic solo set after

I went to the Leeds gig, and the sound was great, but they totally oversold the venue.....it was stupidly packed even right at the back. They should have upgraded to the First Direct Arena...

I would definitely go see them again. Two guys harmonising ace melodies over heavy melodic riffs is quite something.

This, i was there and it was stupidly rammed, great gig but very sweaty

Anyone else think their rhythm section was a bit weak on reflection?

Sean Kinney didn't have the brilliance of Matt Cameron imo. I never listen to AIC and think 'f**k, that drummer's good...'

I agree, he's a good drummer that does enough to suit the music and thats all he needs to do. I never think wow there's some great chops, but with AIC I don't feel the need for them.

His drum riff at the start of No Excuses is pretty tasty.

  • Anyone hear the new album yet? Just got through a first listen, and it sounds like, well... Alice in Chains. Nothing new, but some cool riffs. If you like the last few albums, you'll like this. Sags a bit in the middle, but picks up at the end.

  • One of my favourite metal albums of 2018.
    :)

One of only a handful I can say I feel there is not a bad track on.
AIC, Judas Priest, Saxon and Stryper all produced faultless metal albums this year IMHO!
