Overwinding stratocaster pickups

What happens sonically as you progressively over wind a pickup?
I believe the output increases - but what does it do to the actual sound? Does it make it more mid-range heavy?

You tend to lose some highs in my experience.

I have a BK Sinner at the bridge on a Strat, I can't say if its more middly, but its certainly a fuller sound compared to a standard Strat bridge, but not excessive drive as the resistance would suggest (21K)
I think it also depends on wire gauge and magnet type......a grown up will be along shortly.......

Interestingly, while humbuckers gain predominantly mid range, single coils seem to gain predominantly bass as overwound. I assume that's just because the frequencies added (literally or relatively) fall in a humbucker's mid range which is equivalent to a single coil's bass range. And as others have already said, treble loss too.
