  • Prince - Get Off

Greatest guitar move in a video too: 5mins dead solo, move 20 secs later

    Prince - Sexy MF

Incredible jazzy solo from Levi Ceaser Jr. Perfect pop song too. Learned this by ear once, that was an hour and a half of effort. 4m 42s

    Honourable mentions

Prince - When Doves Cry (I don't anyone who can play that intro)
    Prince - Let's Go Crazy - 2m 39s

Prince is a great guitarist.  Very underratted imo.

A nice unpretentious melodic gem that fits the song perfectly on Tracey Ullman's version of 'They Don't Know', starts at 1:32

Proper Necro Bump here, but I somehow came across this band whilst I was taking a trip down Memory Lane on Youtube. I recalled the Band and tracks even though I was only about 10 at the time. I think I mistakenly thought Stray Cats sang the "Josephine" song that these did.

I probably didn't appreciate the level of Musicianship at the time though.

Quite a Rockabilly Revival going on in the early 80's, I think the Stray Cats must have spawned a few wannabee acts.

Solo is at 1:18 Blimey, nice playing.

I'd nearly forgotten how camp TOTP was back then, haha!

Basically any Queen song imo.. also u read someone say angels by Robbie which I agree with and the solo in feel by Robbie also surprised me as a nice solo when I had to learn it couple of months back, fits the song perfectly.
Also hold the line by Toto is awesome!

    Cheers @Kebabkid ;-)

The Best Pop Song Guitar Solo...........Ever, is in this Chesney Hawkes Song, can't remember who played it, I was wrong in thinking it was Nik Kershaw though.

    2:37

Presumably it was Chesney himself? He’s a good guitarist.
Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.

Some time ago, I tried to get the band I joined to play this. The bass player objected because it was "just a catchy pop song with a good guitar part". Well, duh, yes!

One of the greatest songs of all time, IMHO. A superb solo too and a bugger to play *properly*

  • Great thread!!!

Unusual to get a nylon string solo in a rock song, but I recall this song being in the charts for weeks and weeks back in the day. Solo at 2:44...

Multiple great little sparse, understated slide solos from Frusciante in this one, which again is unusual to hear in a rock song...

Also love the Frusciante solo in Californication.

    Always liked this one.

Think the guitarist was also the producer...John something or other.

Love the rhythm guitar tone as well...what is it? Vox?

    Solo at 2:53.

Surprised nobody so far has suggested the Christmas number one in 1979. That's got a great solo
