The Best Pop Song Guitar Solo...........Ever, is in this Chesney Hawkes Song, can't remember who played it, I was wrong in thinking it was Nik Kershaw though.

    Always liked this one.

Think the guitarist was also the producer...John something or other.

Love the rhythm guitar tone as well...what is it? Vox?

    Solo at 2:53.

Good choice @exocet and it was Jon Brion - loved that album

Always really liked Neil Clark's brilliant bit on Lloyd's Forest Fire... twangy intro, howling outro. From 3.30.

In contrast, this is one of those parts that's not so much a solo, more an elevated rhythm motif... but they chose it to act as a solo, and once heard, it's impossible to imagine anything else. At 1.40, but hell the whole thing's only 2.45. Beyond perfect.

    Did this chart?

    1:15: <Hit me with you best shot>

    I think it did.

And 2:20 - I believe this is Neil Giraldo as well. Great player.

He is. He's "New Wave" but still of great interest to a boring old fart like me. He was also a Lucky Bastard marrying Pat Benatar ...

"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself

    I'd vote for:

Ritchie Blackmore on Since Youv'e Been Gone (Rainbow)

and whoever played the solo on Lay Down (Strawbs) not complex or flashy but did the business

    J. Honeyman-Scott at 1.35 - perfect!  Melodic, fits the song, but takes it somewhere else.

worth a post just to see john mcgeoch (he & john mckay are my fav guitarists) doing his little strutty punk robot dance at the beggining. what an absolute doll!

One of the greatest songs of all time, IMHO. A superb solo too and a bugger to play *properly*
We used to do it in my last band. I had the proper solo and a 'safe' version. Depended on how the night was going as to which came out, but I reckon I did the safe version more times than the proper one :) (same for Another Girl Another Planet - although my excuse Is that John Perry had no set way of playing it live!)

ok mea culpa. but not a billion miles away from the buzzcocks. & but for a bbc strike 'love will tear us apart' would have got an obligatory 'highest new entry' play on TOTP in july 1980.

to compensate, this is a total thread stealer.

I always liked this sharp little solo on Tom Robinson's 2 4 6 8 Motorway:
    (At 1:30)
