  • We have a drummer! Saturday all day and the evening gig. Sunday we'll be supplying our own thump monkey(s)
    He's one of my regular customers. Lovely chap called Matt, and a cracking drummer too. He's not on social media or any of that nonsense but here's a clip of his band playing at a local pub last summer. it'll give you an idea.

    I'd love to know what all the punters are looking at off camera right - it's certainly not the band!  Also loving the bassist's pointy-headstocked Jackson.  Matt looks like a tidy player.

    Agreed. Very tidy.

    That bass seems to be a recurring theme on here today!

    And that keys player is straight out of the Star Fleet school of Casio

    In other news, I've just discovered the Magic Rock Brewery Tap is only 6 minutes walk from the Cambridge.  (possibly a bit longer on the way back...)

    That looks like Friday night sorted then.  @pmbomb I gather you're a fan...

    Bummer.

    What is a "magic rock brewery tap"...? @modellista ;

    Sounds appealing...?

    I might be up for an interesting pint, I've promised myself only one beer before the "open mic" so will certainly want a few more afterwards!!

    Long answer - there's been a big resurgence in what is generally called "craft beer", i.e. Made with care and attention and costs >£2.50 for a can. But the best stuff is direct from the brewery, where it hasn't been treated to the indignity of being encased in an aluminium coffin. To achieve this state of beery nirvana, one has to drink it direct from the source.

    Hence "brewery tap". Magic Rock is the name of the brewery.

    Just to enhance the perfection, it's parmo weekend.

    If you don't know what a parmo is, ask @Boromedic ;

    Actually it is Huddersfield! Just to add to the confusion, it's the hotel that's called Cambridge.

    It's a food truck at the Magic Rock brewery called Parm Star. They're hipster food now!

    Ah, good insider tip. And kudos for making them yourself. Did you see the one on Masterchef? They loved it!

    No I never saw the Masterchef one?! Was that recent? Might have to check it out!

    They are a right faff to make at home tbh, but when you're far from home it's the only choice. Even made them in Leicestershire because you can't get them there either, some dude set up a place in Nottingham but it wasn't the best Parmo tbh. Slowly taking over the world, like our steel and iron used to, only now we harden arteries instead of buildings...

    Ok team, I've been in my busiest patch of freelance work ever over the last week, the run finishes on Sunday night. On the plus side, it's paid for 2 holidays over summer, filled up my tax account, and bought me a new laptop.

    I'll have a few breaths and then catch up on Monday evening with everything I need to catch up with.
