  • Love the sound of my Tele and perfect guitar for me, but the fatter neck makes my hands hurt. Maybe I need a new neck or go shopping for a newun if I sell it...

I’ve got 7. It’s an illness. If you can’t find tonal bliss in the bridge pickup of a tele, whether you play rock, blues, country or rock and roll then you don’t get it. You can get jazz from the neck, funk from the inbetween sounds. No other guitar is as versatile.

My first proper guitar was a mij Tele. Still have it. Made in 1994. Pickups and electrics were dog shit. All swapped out now.

I love them. Bought my first in the 80s. I have. A lot.  I have 8 that I've made myself and it doesn't stop there...

I only have one Tele, but it's a good one. '66 and I am the 3rd owner. My other, very nic, guitars need dusting.

I wish I liked the Fender scale length because I love the tone and stripped back and solid nature of a Tele. I guess the Jr is the Gibson equivalent but they still don't feel as bomb proof!

Heres mine. Nothing too fancy, just an American Special. Currently stock apart from some Gotoh saddles. it's had a few pickup changes and bridge change but ultimately liked it better as it was when I bought it.

Teles are nice, simple guitars. Sound wise they sit in the middle between Strats and Les Pauls. Strong enough to disable stage invaders, as Keef has demonstrated. Easy to build. Easy to modify. You can assemble your own for less than the cost of buying a new Fender.

    Modifications that I like:
    Add Forearm and belly chamfers.
Enlarge the cut-aways for easier top fret access.
Turn the control plate around, and put the volume at the front.
Upgrade the Pickups, and change the switching to suit. I particularly like a tapped Oil City Wapping Wharf in the Bridge, and Californian in the neck, with a 5 way switch.

These two have one piece bodies, and a clear hand wiped finish to show the wood grain.

it doesn't have to be Fender - my best Tele is a no brand that just sounds so lush and punchy, bluesey and sparkly and has massive rock attitude - all contained within its 3 lovey PUP positions with the perfect neck...!
