What is the Strangest place you played a gig?

What's Hot

This from Yesterday rates as one of the most unusual for Borrowed Time.

This was at the Johnston Sweepers factory open day.
Don't touch that dial.

On a skateboard quarterpipe (that was literally the stage) in a field on the Devon/somerset border. After sunset, the audience went off and lit a Gondor-style beacon on a nearby hilltop. This was for a jubilee celebration (it was a paying gig, I'm not a royalist in any way). It was all very Wicker Man.

The French Institute in Edinburgh, probably.

Or a college for kids with learning disabilities... which was a very rewarding, if slightly chaotic, experience!

On a roundabout in Milton Keynes. When I was in band called Big Jed. It was for publicity shots but we had a genny and full drum kit as well as brass section. Brilliant.

  • A boat on a river in the south of France, or an abandoned office block-turned-rave den in Dresden. Or Bremen, I can’t recall.

On the set of Noel Edmonds' Crinkley Bottom for a BBC Xmas party many, many moons ago.  I think I may have posted this before.

  • There’s a particular festival we’ve played in Sussex a number of times that it is very 1960s. On one memorable occasion there were men further down the field with antlers circling a fire whilst to the stage left naked trampolining was going on. All very distracting and mildly unsettling. :)

The Soundcraft factory in Potters Bar

Oh and a brakepad factory in Durban. Oh and a lesbian bar on the Durban seafront.

I love a bit of Doreen.. Very well observed indeed.

My two are probably Cosford Air Museum in one of the hangars and a Viking re-enactment group's preseason training camp. Everyone apart from the band was dressed in period costume and we played inside a huge fireplace.

Edit: I don't have any pics of us playing but here's one from behind the amps. No Viking pictures exist sadly.

Is that the building with the high fences around it as you come in from the lake end @vasselmeyer ;? I’ve always wondered what that was.

@badlydrawnbanjo It was somewhere between Park Parade and Portland Basin. However, it was 20 years ago and could have moved easily. It was a pretty unnerving gig. I remember that there was one amazing looking woman in there who we were advised not to look at. Apparently she was a serial bunny boiler and had been detained after many many stalking incidents.

A cowshed  - Ribble Valley Young Farmers. It did smell more than a bit.

A Fire Station Engine Hall - Rawtenstall Fire Station Christmas do. Terrible room acoustics.

A Boat House - Littleborough Rowing Club Party.

    An amphitheatre in Cyprus.

    Wrexham. edit: Redcar
