Anybody got any suggestions for a fuzz that would be suitable for stoner/Doom? All price ranges welcome, just want something that really fits the bill.

I bought a Boss FZ-5 this afternoon and have just been going through the three options and dial settings, and I think it's got a lot of application for stoner rock.

  • I would say the Fuzzdog ‘Sunny -T’ kit, and the Death by audio Fuzz war are great stoner/doom fuzz pedals.

Take a look at Nine of Swords as well, his YouTube channel is full of doom fuzziness. I have a satanic fuzz ritual and it's doom as fuck.

Fuzz War is great but depends on the amp. Mine sounded great into my Laney, not quite so good into my Marshall. Must be a mids thing. It gets too nasal with the latter if you still want to cut through. It does do a huge thick dark stoner tone with the shape knob lower, but you kinda drop out of the mix when you turn it on. Might be good like that boosted with a TS or with an EQ behind it.

Black Arts Toneworks Pharoah or LSTR (there was a red one at a silly price on reverb recently).

    What guitar/amp are you using?

This is a very good shout actually as it retains enough low end clarity whilst still having enough fuzz and sludge to sound nasty. And it can still cut through the mix. See Goatsnake and Melvins for it being used in this context.

  • Monolith Oracle or the really early example of the triangle Muff that has the 3uF caps.
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....

Thanks for all your suggestions. Playing a a modified SG Jr with a humbucker instead of a P90 through a tweed deluxe. Could probably do with a bigger amp really but it's good for the blues stuff I play.

I can't say I have played a Tweed Deluxe but anything with loads of headroom and big transformers will lend itself to good stoner/doom sounds. Orange/Matamp/Laney are well suited to this particularly if you tune down and are omnipresent among the stoner scene.

Univox Superfuzz/Shin-Ei FY6 or any of the other many names it has. Want Dopethrone? You get that. I run it through a tweed and it dooms enough to nail the tone.

  • Any fuzz will do, really.

Nine of Swords make some very cheap, doomy examples.
