Dallas Rangemaster Guitar Restoration. Help Needed!!!

  • Anyway... I'm sure I'll figure it out. Parts I'm really needing are a Rangemaster vibrato unit (these were used on a few manufacturer's guitars and also sold as an after-market product) and Dallas (or Fenton-Weill) pickups (also used on a few different manufacturer's models). So if anyone has any of these and wants to sell or has links to anyone who has I'd be very interested. Thanks.

Good luck; it looks like a pretty unusual guitar.

For the pickups you could try Adeson Pickups.  He specialises in reproductions and repairs of vintage British pickups; I got a fantastic set of Trisonics off him a few years ago.  His website looks like it’s seen better days, but you might be able to get him by e-mail at wetgilbert@hotmail.com

No idea about the vibrato unit, but as Adeson specialises in vintage Brit stuff he might be able to point you in the right direction.

I've got the treble booster if you want to complete the set.

Very cool! I'm guessing pickups will be tough, but best of luck...

One of these would make a nice Dallas set. Price is a bit ooof, though.

  • Thanks for all the input everyone. Puts me a few steps further on in my search. I don't think it's a "one-off" as I've another picture of one with a different owner from around the same time but I don't think many were made (possibly fewer than 20) and how many of those still survive is anyone's guess. If only I could find one of those Rangemaster vibratos in decent (or any) nick...  :/

  • Same vibrato as the Dallas Tuxedo pictured above.

I had the dallas scala amp for a while, the smaller version of the rangemaster.  it was fun, but no way was it worth that money.

  • No luck finding parts but many thanks for the comments and info. They've been a real help. I have parts that I can do a "near as" restoration with. Fenton-Weill pickups and vibrato etc. Might just do that if it proves nigh-on impossible to source that "Rangemaster" vibrato and those correct pickups... I'm sure that'll horrify a couple of enthusiasts of my acquaintance though... Ha-ha!

Only parts I'm needing now are the pickups. They're the same as you get on Fenton-Weill guitars (and others supplied by Fenton-Weill) but are the "shallow" type where the chrome covers aren't so tall. If that makes any sense... (probably not). Wish I was into Strats and Les Pauls... Life would be so much simpler (and duller). ;)

Did you try to establish contact with Adeson pickups?
