Daring Adventures, Rumour and Sigh, The Old Kit Bag, Still - hard to go wrong really. While some are better than others, in spite of being so prolific he’s never put out a stinker....

For some of the songs, try Acoustic Classics 1 and 2. Basically, it's him and the Lowden, playing songs he originally recorded with a band but was also playing solo when touring without the band. Beautifully recorded, played and sung.

Lovely versions of lots of his best compositions, played solo.

  • For a DVD experience, I also like the Live At Celtic Connections concert, also featuring the late, great Pete Zorn. Some of it is probably on YouTube somewhere.

Love Mock Tudor and even better if you can find the live cd of the same tracks called Semi-Detached Mock Tudor

That sounds interesting, seen some great bands as part of Celtic connections.

Is it acoustic or electric guitar?

Couldn't agree more with all the praise, this has always been my favourite:

One of my favourite lines in any song, in that one, as well!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

  • Big fan here too, never forget when I first heard Beeswing, bought all his stuff thereafter. Electric wise, he’s a true maverick - one of the great songwriters of our time  B)

Just back from The Opera House - 2 hours of exceptional musicianship. Wheeled out a few real classics, such as Wall of Death, Tear Stained Letter, Dimming of the Day, Beeswing, Vincent Black Lightening and many more. All played on either a reissue Strat, with a few pedals through a couple of Deluxe Reverbs - or his Lowden. A great night....

Don’t suppose you asked about the 50s maple neck one he used to play? I’d love to know if he still has it - and whether it ever gets played in the studio.

The partscaster is made from Fender parts - it’s essentially a 62 reissue Strat with a perloid guard - it used to be fitted with Rio Grande pick-ups. Not sure whether it still has those.

The English version of Christy Moore but perhaps with a bit more guitar chops.

I listened to a couple of songs, Beeswing being one and I will be listening to more.
