I have a deposit on one of the incoming r8's but with 40% off that r9 it has me thinking...

FYI, if you’re going to go for the r9, some of us got ours for a bit less than 3500, aim for 3250  ;)

Sold for £2,250 (or close to it), I'm assuming:

I'm guessing the '£1500 Dreamers' will be particularly unhappy at this...

    Good to see.

I maintain that in the long run I can't see anyone loosing out on these.

Why such strong views on the prices of used R8s?

Because some people want to turn a profit on these in 2 years' time, and some people want to buy a used one now for £1500 and because some people can't afford them either way.

I'm assuming that you haven't read through all of the previous 135 pages of this thread.

There are those who say that the knockdown price on the ones that started this thread will cause second hand prices to drop, while others say that it won't have much effect, or that any effect is likely to be temporary.  Both sides are rather entrenched in their opinions.

People can get quite rude about prices on this forum anyway.  I remember advertising a PRS for sale in the classifieds a few years ago.  Someone on here made me a lowball offer, and I said no, and he came back with an arrogant PM saying that was adamant that I'd never get more than £1000 for it.  I sold it on consignment in Charlie Chandlers and got a bit over £1200 after commission - so better than £200 more than the maximum he said I would get.

That spirit of "I know better than you" persists on this forum.  Pricing of second hand guitars is one of those that seems to bring it out.  Always has done, and people don't like being told they are wrong - even when they are.

There are also a handful of people on the forum who are argumentative types, might even use the word troll.  I can understand TTony getting fed up and wanting out.

Have recorded with my phone the R8.
First in clean sound and the second with the boost of the Mercury.

Nice! Does that fingerboard look a bit thirsty

I can’t comment on his R8, but lemon oil did the strangest thing to my R8 fretboard:

    nothing visible whatsoever

I have never experienced that with a rosewood board before?

Weirdly, my dirty lemon was similar. Gave it a good soaking but didn't really change. Bizarre

  • The "Lemon oil" sold in guitar shops isn't actually an oil, it's a lemon-scented solvent (basically just lighter fluid), which is good for cleaning but doesn't do anything towards actually moisturising or nourishing a fretboard.

I use Gerlitz Guitar Honey for that, which works very nicely.

I really like PRS’ fretboard conditioner actually. Might be my favourite I’ve tried on rosewood so far.

Never heard of it but just ordered some, thanks.

Now does anyone have any idea why the same Dunlop Lemon Oil that I have always bought, and has made every single rosewood board noticeably darker almost straight away, made absolutely no difference to the board on my R8?
