Obviously you should make your own decision, but we've picked up about three private parking tickets in the Fab household over the past few years.  We've ignored them all, and just laughed at their "solicitors" threats to take us to court.  The letters eventually stopped.  Never heard anything more.  Where in Swansea were you playing BTW ?
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.
Also chips are "Plant-based" no matter how you cook them.

I'd be interested in how many people have successfully ignored parking tickets from 2016 onwards ( following the decision in the favour of the parking companies in late 2015).

I got one last year from CP Plus. Parked just a few minutes over the allowed time when at a Manics gig in Llandudno.  I wrote a couple of letters telling them to buzz off, then ignored the warning letters from debt collectors. All quiet for a few months now. I read on moneysavingexperts forum that some companies are more likely to prosecute than others and that CP Plus had never prosecuted, so I was not worried. It’s a civil action it is costly for them to take a case to court. You’d be pretty unlucky if they decided to make an example of you, I reckon. I’d ignore it.

Interesting, that's really contrary to anything else I've read ( this is a subject that comes up endlessly on camper forums as well as what it says on MSE). There must be an extent to which the companies can't be arsed and are prepared to write so many off.

I guess it’s like anything in life, you take a chance. There’s a similar situation with payday loan companies, they don’t always chase the debt, apparently they view non-payment as an operating hazard and write a lot of it off without pursuit.

Is it? That's like saying I may as well go shop lifting as even if I get caught it will probably never result in a court case never mind a prosecution.

I had one for daring to buy a ticket that covered all day in a rather empty car park. I appealed by sending a copy of the ticket and they claimed it wasn't displayed (non sticky variety that easily falls off into the footwell).

They then sent letters demanding a tenner so I thought fuck it, can't be arsed with this and sent them a cheque. I've not parked there since and it used to be the car park I would always use.

Relating to the issue in question, in situations where you feel you’re in the right and have no other option to defend yourself, yes.

But you do have an option - you can appeal the ticket if you think that you are in the right. That is the advice that others have given.

You are advising to not appeal and to simply ignore the ticket in the hope that the issuer will give up their attempt for recourse. I think that's quite different.

  • Be aware, that while if you ignore the chances of them taking you to court is actually very small, they do occasionally. Also they have up to six years to decide to take court action. There has been  a few cases where they have taken court action, the defendant has meanwhile moved house, never got the court summons and so the parking company has won by default. This only comes to light when the "victim" applies for a  loan or mortgage and it comes up on their credit record as a ccj.
I would recomend not ignoring BUT definately NOT paying the charge either. They are easy to win if you follow the correct procedure.
There have also been cases where people have not only beaten the parking companies but have won substantial damages off them for breech of the data protection act.

Regarding ignoring, that was the previous advice, but the law changed a few years ago and the current advice is to most definitely not ignore!

As noted above, in the worst case you could find yourself with a CCJ against you.

As for parking in general, I try not to go to places which charge; I'll happily go elsewhere instead.

On that vein, these punitive parking regulations are contributing to the woes of the High Street - why go somewhere where there are scum just waiting for their chance to catch you out when you can just click the mouse a few times to get what you want.

There was a court of appeal decision a couple of years ago that upholds these, you used to be able to ignore them and they would go away. So, ignoring it is generally seen as bad advice now.
The problem is that the appeals process doesn't freeze the date on the original ticket, there is a proposed change in the law but it hasn't gone through yet. Stupid loophole that works for the parking companies.
I'd re-read what the notice is for ( for example failure to display a ticket is different than failure to buy a ticket) and appeal if you think you are in the right rather than in the moral right. I appealed one not that long ago and it was sorted quickly ( ideally I'd have had some kind of apology from the parking company for wasting my time). I did try appealing one MrsTheWeary got on Asda car park by asking Asda to intervene, they did respond but they wouldn't help.

I had an instance of the "fluttering ticket" the last time I went to Brighton (about 4 years ago) and the council acknowledged that I had paid and even had a picture of the ticket where it had fallen in the car, but they still insisted I had to pay the fine.

They eventually withdrew it when I pointed out that they had failed to follow their documented procedure in their response to me.

I've not been to Brighton since - there are other places I'll happily go to instead.

I now carry a clothes peg in the car, which I use to add weight to the ticket so it stays on the dashboard (carefully not obscuring any information on it, of course!).

please do not just give up and pay. Fight it you will win, easily and lessen the money these scum make. Over the past five years ive had loads of them and never had to pay any of them. follow pepipoo, first thing is never admit you were the driver. then go from there.

My reading of the situation is that vehicles are okay to occupy the loading zone for as long as they are loading or unloading. At any other time, the loading space should be vacated.

Without knowing the exact venue location, I can not comment on where the band's cars should have been parked instead.

It might be worth contacting the gig venue management to have a grumble. If you were parked on private property with the owner's permission, perhaps the owner can intervene on your behalf to get the private parking fines revoked. Alternatively, if you ever get booked into that venue again, you will have to increase your fee by £240.
    Be seeing you.

I think the ticket not displayed fine would piss me off beyond belief. You have the ticket as proof that you’ve paid, but they still want to fine you for it dropping out of sight. It’s not like you’re trying to deliberately deceive them and they’ve already had your money.

  • I returned to my car to find a ticket on it from a proper traffic warden. I saw him a few cars up, and was ready to argue with him about the 2 minutes over...when I realised he had put the wrong reg on the ticket.

I just smiled at him, popped it in the bin and drove off.

Unsurprisingly, I never heard anything from them.
